ScottAlanReed.com is a multi-themed weblog that promotes the Wisconsin Northwoods lifestyle including visiting, living, working, and playing in the beautiful Wisconsin Northwoods. Our multi-themed site also includes posts on self-improvement, health, recreation, interesting books, places, and events. This site is owned and operated by a couple who have lived on the shores on the 19,000+ acre Turtle Flambeau Flowage in Iron County Wisconsin since 1994.

We are avid fisherman, island campers, explorers, and outdoor recreational enthusiasts. We and our children have fished and camped all the big flowages in the Northwoods since our three children were in diapers. Through those years, we have seen only a fraction of the opportunities for a memorable , stress-free, wilderness experience in the Northern Wisconsin outdoors.

YOU Can Do This Too!

Scott worked for 24 years for a Fortune 100 company as a senior network analyst supporting a global network that reaches into 225 countries around the world. If you were to investigate the most stressful jobs in the USA, you would find that MIS rates in the top five. Scott retired to the Northwoods at age 57 and still pinches himself daily to verify that he is really here, living his dream.

While working in the corporate environment, Scott acquired his broker’s license for real estate investment and development purposes as a side-line interest. He has implemented several projects in the Northwoods including condominium projects to provide suitable housing for seniors and retireds who needed to move from their lakefront homes and farms into less demanding housing versus moving to the city. Scott also worked for Coldwell Banker for over three years as a broker branch manager in Mercer, Wisconsin. With his technical background, Scott brought new technology to the Northwoods to support his R.E. specialties in waterfront homes and large acreage parcels including high-end hunting camps.

Mary taught school at the elementary level for 25 years. Teaching is another burn-out occupation that rates high on the list the most stressful jobs in the USA. She also retired at 57 and moved immediately to the stress-free environment of the Northwoods. Besides joining her husband in her favorite activities of fishing, camping, and wilderness exploring, Mary is active in the community of Springstead; an unincorporated community which is located on highway 182 between Manitowish and Park Falls. She is an avid quilter and uses her skill in quilting to support the local volunteer fire department through group quilting and sales. She is active in the local book club, women’s club, garden club, Springstead resale shop, and Sparks – the women who support the volunteer fire department when they are called into action.

The fact that Scott was hooked on the Internet, and its ability to reach the world, made this a natural pastime in retirement. He’s a geek. A laptop is just another appendage. Mary has lent her special social skills to buffer Scott’s technical interests.

As a team, our websites are always geared towards serving YOU. If we can make a break from the 9 to 5 work routine and relocate to a no-stress environment, then so can you.  These web pages will provide you with all the information and guidance that you need in order to do that. The most stressful task that we perform in the winter is to haul in another load of firewood or make a run for shore when the next storm moves in during a fishing outing in the summer. Shouldn’t that be you?

Visit and explore the Northwoods first. Then find your piece of the Northwoods, buy it, and forget about it until you are ready to retire. That’s what we did. We’ll be here to help you with that next piece of the puzzle. So visit our ever changing site, e-mail us, or give us a call when your quest to the Northwoods encounters a bump in the road. We’ve been there, done that, and we’re here to help.
