E-mail Case Study – What Do Your Subscribers Really Want?

When maintaining a list of subscribers, your subscribers expect to hear from you at least once per day. Otherwise, they tend to forget about you.

But what type of content should you send to them? Everyone says, “deliver value”. But what does that really mean? No one has elaborated on just what valuable e-mail content is supposed to be.

I struggled with this for years and failed miserably when e-mailing my list. My subscribers were bored. Open rates were pitiful, no matter what type of content I sent to them.

It’s tough coming up with engaging e-mail content on a daily basis.

And Then I Had an Idea

I finally got fed up with the whole matter.

It happened one night while I was laying in bed, thinking – what do these people really need from me? How do I get them to take that next baby-step that will move their lives forward in a positive direction?

And then it happened. BOOM! Just like that the idea that had eluded me for years suddenly popped into my head.

They want my help. Duh.

Should that be so hard to figure out? I had given them everything but my help. I felt pretty stupid when thinking this through.

They subscribed to my list because either:

They like my offer but know nothing of me and want to see if I’m willing to work with them.
They don’t know yet if I can be trusted.
They liked what I offer but can’t afford it right now.
They want to know more but are not willing to commit to what I have to offer.
They like the offer but want to hear more about it.
They are skeptical of the offer and/or me and want to test both a bit longer.
They want something for free and they might get it by subscribing to my list.

There could be any number of reasons why they are on my list yet say nothing and do nothing.

But the purpose of this article is not to try and figure out why folks subscribe to my list. The purpose is to the take a look at a total change in my strategy for communicating with my list of subscribers and see what happened once I began sharing with them differently.

I made the conscious decision to help them as best I could. And I think that this is a strategy I’m going to stick with.

Why? Because I believe we online marketers are compensated for our efforts in direct proportion to the amount of effort we expend in helping others.

Lets look at The Actual E-mail Content in This Case Study

The following is an example of the tripe that I usually send to my list of subscribers. It basically communicates some news of a new marketing funnel and pitches them to join The Four Percent Group by going through the marketing funnel.

I should mention that these subscribers have already been through a Four Percent Group marketing funnel at least once.

So all this e-mail really does is ask them to go through yet another marketing funnel and see if the content in that funnel resonates with them enough to trigger their decision to join The Four Percent Group.

This e-mail really accomplished nothing since only four out of a list of 1,500 subscribers chose to check out the new marketing funnel that I just promoted to them. Obviously, running through various marketing funnels does not meet their needs and wants at this point in time. They want something else.

Subject: IMPORTANT – Four Percent Group releases new eye-opener campaign today

Hi Peeps,

The Four Percent Group has released a new campaign called “Money This Week“.

Why should this be of interest to you?

The big discount memberships are back. Even a lifetime membership at an 87% discount.
This campaign is loaded with social proof.

At one point, Vick Strizheus poses the question in our Facebook group LIVE on camera, “who has made a commission in the last couple of days?”

The positive responses in FB started flooding in almost immediately, most with detailed results. All LIVE.

Click here for Money This Week.

I’ve never shared this with anyone. But I’ll let you in on a secret.

Why am I a member of The Four Percent Group?

After all, I’ve been in IM for six years and was doing well on my own.

I’m in Four Percent because I saw where this is going. I caught the “vision” of where Four Percent and TECademics are going and I was not going to get left behind. Never regretted that decision.

I don’t have to plan strategy – Vick does that for the group and shares everything.

I don’t have to build funnels – Vick does that for the group and does walk-throus.

I don’t do e-mail follow-ups – Vick and his team do that for the group.

I don’t create tons of videos – Vick does that for the group.

I don’t have to have a development team, a graphics person, a videographer, etc. – Vick does that.

All I do is send traffic to a funnel and attend weekly meetings. Pretty simple

And for all that I pay a pittance membership fee and collect commissions.

It’s crazy. But it’s also fun and exciting.

It’s not about the money anymore. It’s about the people. It’s about newbies making their first commissions and congratulating them, watching them grow, and helping them along the way.

And the companies in our portfolio, from whom we earn commissions, grow every day. It gets more exciting.

And above all that, our mission is to guide fellow marketers to top-notch TECademics college training programs that teach, not just a piece of the IM puzzle, but the whole program, whether on-line or on campus, so that they are able to succeed in IM versus struggle for years like the rest of us did at one time.

That’s why you need to be in The Four Percent Group. You can watch us or join us. Systems work. People fail.

We are building that system. And our people never fail.

Even if you are not ready to join us, at least take a look at this campaign. It’s pretty cool.

At this point is when I had my epiphany and decided I need to help these folks instead of giving them a daily news report on what’s happening in The Four Percent Group.

And when I made that decision, my intention was to give it to them raw and tell it like it is. I’m good at that. I like to shoot from the hip. I hate wishy-washy beat around the bush type stuff. I can’t stand small-talk and useless chatter.

I just never thought anyone would be receptive to this abrupt approach. But I didn’t care anymore. I was tired of being ignored by my subscribers so I was going to tell it like it is. Their lives suck, and they need to change instead of sitting around on their thumbs expecting to win the lottery.

Take a look at the next e-mail I sent to my list and the abrupt change in tone. Note how I got straight to the point in the Subject Line, “Getting what you want”. That got their attention.

The open rate on this e-mail was pretty impressive. But I wasn’t sure yet if I was onto something. I was taking the risk of alienating my whole list. But I didn’t care. I wanted to know if they would be receptive to my help.

Also, notice how I let them know that I’m not done yet speaking about this topic. I let them know that I’m going to pick up where I left off in tomorrow’s e-mail, so they will be looking for that message in anticipation.

E-Mail Message #1  of 4 (this is the stuff they want to hear from you)

Subject: IMPORTANT – Getting what you want – Chapter One

Hi Peeps,

Before I forget, there are a couple of exciting things happening next week in The Four Pecent Group that will impact YOU directly. I can’t go into detail now. But you will be the first to know of these announcements. Cool stuff coming.

Secondly, I did some heavy thinking last week and asked myself if I was really serving your needs by keeping you informed on what’s happening at TECademics and Four Percent.

I don’t think so. So we are changing gears.

My job is not to sell you something. My job is to put information in your hands that will make you a better marketer and get a transparent understanding of how you can resolve issues that are preventing you from getting what you want.

I think that I told you this already – there was a time (early 2,000’s) when online marketing was what I call “the wild, wild, Web”. Marketers were selling anything and everything; even junk.

Making money was king.

Nobody thought or even cared what customers needed or wanted.

Those days are long gone.

Marketers changed their mindset and realized that customers come first.

Serve your customers well and the money will follow.

We as marketers need to forget about the money and put service first.

The “Universal Law of Compensation” states that the compensation you receive will always be in direct proportion to the amount of service you give.

You must give before you get. Unwilling to give, then forget about getting. Give just a little, and you can expect just a little. You get the idea?

You may have noticed the change in attitude over the years. I know that I did.

The most important characteristic of a successful online marketer is mindset.

It’s not SEO, it’s not traffic, it’s not e-mail marketing, it’s not ads or funnels, or landing pages.

It’s YOU.

For that reason, you need to work twice as hard on YOU as you do on your business.

So what do I mean by that?

Is your attitude positive or negative most of the time? Negative mindset will get you nowhere. So become a positive thinking person – always.

Here’s a brief summary of how I did that over a few years. (I used to be real negative)

I hang around positive people. You become like the 5 people you hang around most.
Any information that I have that is negative, stops with me. I don’t pass it on to others.
I’m a reader. I read books that empower me with good information. I don’t read fiction.
I avoid the news. All news is normally bad news so I catch the weather and sports. That’s it.
I rarely watch TV. Most programs are negative in nature and screw up my attitude.

Your life is created daily by what you think about most. So think about what you WANT and stop thinking about what you DON’T WANT.

If you do this, you will attract what you want, to yourself instead of what you don’t want.

There is no such thing as destiny.

There are no forces outside yourself that are controlling you or your situation.

Do this exercise this week and see what you learn. Try going one week without complaining either out loud or in your mind. If you trip up, start the 7 days over again.

It’s difficult, so don’t get down on yourself if you can’t do it at first try.

The point is to make you a more positive person.

I could write a book on this subject but I want to keep this e-mail short. I’ll share more tomorrow.

My intention is to give you the tools you need in order to get what you want, whatever that might be. Doesn’t matter.

I don’t pretend to have all the answers but I do know where to find the answers.

And once we are done with mindset, I want to talk to you about money.

You see, you are rich but don’t know it yet. I’m going to tell you why tomorrow and then share with you how to bring more money into your life. Promise.

(HINT – this has nothing to do with joining or buying anything)

Money isn’t everything, but it does take money to do just about everything.

Talk more tomorrow,

That got their attention. The next day I sent the following e-mail. There are actually four emails to this series of “help them” messages. By looking at open rates, clicks, and the messages that were sent to my personal Inbox (I’ll show you those later), I know for a fact that their trust and attitude toward me had changed. I was connecting with them. And they were beginning to trust me. Still I wanted to drive the point home so I sent them this next e-mail.

E-mail Message #2 of 4 (the stuff they want to hear)

Subject Line: Important – Getting what you want – Chapter Two

Hi Peeps,

Yesterday I shared with you how to get what you want by first preparing your mindset. That’s so important.

One test to see how you feel about yourself is to look in the mirror. Make eye contact. What do you see?

If you love the person you see in the mirror, everything is okay. If you feel otherwise, something is wrong and needs to be fixed.

I know it sounds weird but you literally have to love yourself in order to successfully give fully to other people or a business.

I need to tell you some other things you can do to fix your mindset. But we’ll do that tomorrow.

I promised to tell you how you can get more money, so the rest of the story on mindset will have to wait.

Money – does money seem to allude you?

Remember, don’t believe a word I say. I’ll give you good references to verify that I speak the truth.

Did you know that you have an image in your mind before you do anything? Try it.

You can’t even use the bathroom without first seeing an image of yourself in the bathroom.

Your mind, especially your subconscious mind works entirely with images. Thoughts produce images in your mind.

If you are not a person who spends time thinking, especially about what you want, you need to become one.

Your mind is the only thing in this world over which you have complete control. Nothing else. So let’s use it.

Let’s use your mind to get some more money for you.

Your mind is more powerful than a multitude of super computers. But it has this strange quirk where it can’t tell the difference between images that you form in your mind and reality.

We call the following, tricking your mind or programming your mind. All you need is a specific thought image, repetition, and belief.

You see, forming images in your mind are not enough. You need to convince your mind that what you see in your “mind’s eye” is real. And that takes belief.

When you form a specific image in your mind of what you want, or the lifestyle that you desire and you see that image often, especially before you go to sleep and again when you wake, you are giving your subconscious mind specific instructions which it must obey.

But first you need to convince your mind that what you see is real through your belief and your actions.

Your subconscious mind’s primary responsibility is to follow the orders which you give it.

The subconscious mind is extremely susceptible to repetition and you visualizing images of what you want.

When you attach belief and actions to this, your subscious mind will elicit the help of all the resources in the Universe to move what it is that you desire, towards you. We call that attraction.

You are attracting what you want, like attracting money, to yourself.

It doesn’t matter where the money comes from. Forget about that completely.

The Universe knows where to find it. It flows everywhere. We just need to get it to flow to you.

Images and visualization with belief are the keys. Don’t go for the cars, house, yacht, vacations all at once. Be specific. Start with just money.

Get an image in your mind of envelopes of money accumulating in your mailbox.

See yourself bringing the mail to the kitchen table, opening the envelopes, and making little piles of bills according to their denomination.

Then take the cash you have on hand and put it in some envelopes.

Put those envelopes in your mailbox.

Wait about an hour and then go get the mail, sit at the kitchen table, and sort the bills out of the envelopes.

This helps make it real. We are tricking your mind by performing an action directly related to what you see in your mind daily.

Your subconscious mind, not knowing if this is real or just an image, will make it real over time if you complete this task on a daily basis. Repetition is the key.

How much time? That all depends on much belief you can muster and how quickly you can do this.

It could be weeks, months, or years. It depends entirely on you.

Don’t question how this happens. Just believe it.

Any questions will tip off your mind that we are tricking it into giving you want you want.

You can do this with anything. A car, a new house, a set of new golf clubs, it doesn’t matter.

That’s why I asked you in a previous e-mail to stop thinking about what you don’t want and start thinking about what you do want.

I realize this is a deep subject and you might think it is B.S.. So here are some great resources where you can verify what I say, and find out more about how and why this works for anyone. All on

P.S. – the abundance that you desire was given to you at birth. It will come to you once you develop the proper mindset, discipline, and belief necessary to receive it. It’s there.

It just takes some practice and belief on your part.

P.P.S. – Tomorrow, I will share with you specific daily actions you can take to reinforce all of the above.

I hit at the crux in this message. In message #1, I told them that their problem is not their business – It’s them. They need to work on themselves and change their attitude and mindset. Otherwise they are wasting their time in online marketing.

In message #2, I told them what they really wanted to hear – how to attract money to yourself just by changing how you think. Tough concepts but easy to apply. And these concepts DO get results. I told them not to believe anything I say without checking other sources to verify that I speak the truth. I gave them the resources to read and verify.

Then in message #3, I sent them this to show them that I don’t just preach this stuff, I live it. I want them to know that I was a mess and a failure until I took all I’m teaching them and applied it to myself. Here’s the message.

E-mail Message #3 of 4 (the stuff they want to hear)

Subject Line: IMPORTANT – How to Get What you Want – Chapter Three

Hi Peeps,

Today, I’m going to share with you the specific actions that I take on a daily basis in order to maintain my positive mindset for online business building and attracting what I want to myself versus relying on something ridiculous like destiny or luck.

We’ve already talked about the most important characteristic of an online marketer – mindset.

And we talked about how abundance and money are already yours for the taking if you will simply adopt a visualization and belief system that puts you in the best position to receive what is rightfully yours.

Review “Getting what you want” chapter one and two if you missed or skimmed this information.

Now here’s what I have done for the last ten years on a daily basis to maintain my mindset and attract only what I want to myself.

I set goals and write them down. Behavioral studies have shown that those who write their goals on paper achieve them. Those who just keep this stuff in their heads, do not.

I aim high but make sure my goals are achievable.

If you want to get somewhere, other than where you are now, you have to define what that “somewhere” is. Right? Setting goals does that.

And I’m assuming that everyone wants to “raise the bar” and move their lives forward. Otherwise, why are you checking out online passive income opportunities?

You’re doing that because you want to stop being a slave to your job. Or you want to stop being a slave to the bank. Or something like that.

Then I make notes on the same piece of paper, what I am going to do to achieve those goals. A plan.

Next I set a specific date on which those goals will be achieved. I do this so that I am accountable. It’s even better to be accountable to someone else, like your spouse or best friend.

Then I review my goal sheet and plan once before I go to bed each night and again upon rising the next day. These are the times when your subconscious mind is most susceptible to suggestion.

And I want my subconscious mind chewing on this stuff all night and all day. I have found by doing this that the toughest obstacles are resolved by my subconscious mind while I am asleep.

This has happened to you too. Remember what your friends and family say when you can’t get that lawnmower or other mechanical device to run?

“Sleep on it, honey. You’ll have a whole new outlook on the issue in the morning.”

And what happened? You woke the next day and solved the issue with the lawnmower.

How did that happen? You didn’t know it at the time but your subconscious mind worked on the problem all night and presented the solution to you the next morning.

Set goals and write them on paper. Aim high, but make them achievable.
Make a plan (which can be revised) and write that down.
Set a specific date by which these goals will be accomplished.
Review your goals once before retiring, and again upon rising.
Visualize in your mind what your life will be like when these goals are achieved.
Remember, your mind doesn’t know the difference between an image in your mind and reality. So once you believe that you have reached your goal, there it is. Real.

In addition to the above, I read. I love to read. If you are not a reader, get audio books that you can listen to in the car or at home. But make sure they are positive books and supportive of your goals.

I usually read about three books at once. My mood determines which I will pick up.

I’m currently reading “Secrets of the Millionaire Mind” by T. Harv Eker, “Letting Go of the Words” by Ginny Redish, “Awaken the Giant Within” by Tony Robbins, and “Riches Within Your Reach” by Robert Collier.

I also do some exercise in the morning to support my body and maintain my weight. When you feel good, you are good.

Throughout the day I also remove negative situations, people, magazines, TV, and anything else that doesn’t support my objectives. If I can’t avoid negative input, I just ignore it. It goes in one ear and out the other onto the floor where it belongs.

Do you think that is obsessive?

Tell me this. Are your goals, compared to where you are now, obsessive? Probably. So why wouldn’t you do whatever it takes to reach those goals? You need some shortcuts and I have given those to you.

That’s what it is going to take to be rich. Whatever it takes, you do it, and do it cheerfully.

Geez, I forgot to mention getting outside of your comfort zone. Nothing happens in your comfort zone. Success lies outside of your comfort zone.

I’m going to make it a note to expand on that tomorrow because it is so, so important.

In the mean time, please take this stuff to heart. I’m showing you the easy way to riches. Most people wouldn’t tell you this stuff.

You can do it. I’m 101% positive that you can take these simple steps forward and accomplish great things.

I know it’s a big change for you. But in order to make a ton of money you must be a warrior. And a warrior never gives up and he/she does whatever it takes to get the job done.

You are that warrior. Just reach deep down inside yourself and you will find that warrior attitude inside of you.

Until tomorrow,

In the final message in this series of four messages, I addressed the importance of getting out of your comfort zone and staying out of it as much as possible.

So they were told that YOU need to change in e-mail message #1 in the series. Then I told them in message #2  how they can begin to attract money to themselves with the right belief system and a much improved attitude. I used myself as an example in message #3 to show them that, yep, I really do this stuff on a daily basis and so can you. And in message #4 (the last in the series) I told them that nothing happens in your comfort zone. So do the things that are uncomfortable, do whatever it takes to accomplish what you want out of life.

And I capped off the whole four day series of messages by sharing with them an early announcement that they would have a chance to join The Four Percent Group for free.

That removed a burden from their shoulders (the cost of belonging to The Four Percent Group) and hopefully set them free to improve themselves, improve their attitude so that they could positively attract other positive things into their lives, and stay out of their comfort zone in order to achieve maximum success.

Here’s the message.

Subject: IMPORTANT – How to Get What You Want -Chapter Four and a Special Announcement

Hi Peeps,

We”ve talked about Mindset and how important it is in Chapter One.

Then we talked about how to get Money now in Chapter Two.

In Chapter Three, I shared with you how I handle mindset, and getting money on a daily basis.

In Chapter Four, we are going to talk about getting outside of your comfort zone, because nothing will happen in your life until you do.

What is your comfort zone? Everybody has one. And it shouldn’t be too hard to figure out what yours is.

Since I haven’t worked a day since September 2, 2007 and I live in my dream house on 19,000 acres of water in the wilderness of Wisconsin’s northwoods, I guess I would have to say that’s my comfort zone.

You can imagine how shocked I was when my mentor, Shaqir Hussyin to whom I paid $40K to mentor me for a year, told me, “Scott, nothing happens until you get outside of your comfort zone. If you don’t do that, you might as well find something else to do besides online marketing.”

So I pushed myself.

I hate to fly but I booked a flight from Minneapolis to Las Vegas last year just to get out of my comfort zone.

I made it difficult. I had to drive 4 1/2 hours to Minneapolis to make my flight.

I stayed in Las Vegas for three nights in order to attend a conference.

Then on my flight back, which arrived in Minneapolis at midnight, I had to drive through the night another 4 1/2 hours to get home in the wee hours of the morning.

I was outside of my comfort zone where I belonged.

Shaqir said I have to do videos. I hate getting in front of the camera. Nevertheless, I set up a studio in a spare bedroom and began shooting videos.

Then he said I need to do webinars and live events. I need to get on someones stage or my own. I made my slide decks for the webinars but haven’t moved forward to webinar presentation or getting on stage.

I will. But that’s really uncomfortable for me.

Do you see my point?

If you are in online marketing, these types of things need to be done in order for you to succeed.

You can’t just sit at home on your computer and make things happen.

You have to get outside your comfort zone and do the things that you regard as uncomfortable.

I know marketers who will schedule months in the Caribbean just to shoot film of themselves doing all kinds of interesting things in interesting places.

I know marketers who employ a videographer full-time to follow them around and shoot video whether they be here or someplace else in the world.

These marketers are staying outside their comfort zone because they know that is what it takes to win big in online marketing and that is where the money is.

Are you willing to do all this?

Of course you are. There is nothing scary about doing video, webinars, and live events.

Seriously, you are who you are. And you are expected to be nothing more than that in your videos, online webinars, and your travels to get great shots in far away places.

I don’t want to leave this subject until I share with you why it is so hard to get outside of your comfort zone.

What is the primary function of your mind? It is SURVIVAL. That makes sense. The primary job of your mind is to keep you alive.

Your mind is primarily responsible for protecting you.

You have been conditioned all your life from birth by parents, friends, teachers, TV, relatives, acquaintances etc..

You are a product of “them” in your thinking.

When you make a decision, that little voice that speaks inside your head tells you what to do in order to keep you safe. But that’s not you. That’s “them” speaking and influencing your action.

You are safest in your comfort zone and your protective mind does not like it when you venture out of your comfort zone.

Thus, the warnings that you get when you venture to your zone boundaries.

The best way to combat this is to say to that little voice, “thank you for sharing” but I choose to do the following.

Then make your OWN choices, get up on stage and ignore that little voice in your head. Ignore your conditioning and be YOU for a change.

Ignore how you have been conditioned all your life. Ignore “them”.

I challenge you to stay outside of your comfort zone as much as possible. If you do that, you will go far indeed.

I’m confident you can do that.

Remember, You are a Warrior. Warriors do whatever it takes in all situations. Defeat is not an option.

Reread the last three chapters of messages that I have sent to you.

This is what it is going to take for you to be rich.

But none of it is hard. It’s just a change in the way that you normally think and do things.
See you on the inside.

P.S. – Okay, I’m not very good at keeping a secret for a long period of time. So here it is. You’ll have to wait for details because I don’t have them yet.

For a limited time, we will be offering FREE memberships into The Four Percent Group. That means no $49/month membership fees. A free marketing funnel in Clickfunnels, and the chance to begin earning commissions, along with access to the entire members area of The Four Percent Group.

Keep this under your hat. No formal announcement has been made. I think that will happen on Monday and I’ll make sure you are the first to know.

The Four Percent Group has never done this before. It’s a BETA test. But it’s also a chance for you to get “inside” at no cost to you. Be patient over the weekend.

Now here are some of the responses I got from my subscriber list. First of all understand that I never get messages from my subscriber list. So I was shocked!

Responses from Subscribers After Receiving the 4 Series of Messages Above

“Thank so much for this I look forward to these everyday your really great guy with an awesome personality an cant thank you enough for these.” Sean J.

“I u derstand, but like I was told the only way to make money is to have money. Which I do not have. 968.00 a month dies not give you extra money to spend.” tacjpc2

“I will and God bless you and your family as I am a brother of yours and the lord Jesus.
Thank you for your time.” Danny T.

“I want to get started” G. Brooks

“I’ll be waiting sir hopefully this turns out to be great experience I’m willing to go all out with this company to ensure your time is not wasted and also mine.” Sean J.

“How do you sign up for the 4% percent group?” Sean J.

On a final note, take notice how in this four message series, I didn’t promote or pitch anything. Those four messages are all about them; not my offer.

You can’t tell it here because I pasted the messages in an off-setting color in order to make this post more readable, but I made the two lines under my signature, links to TECademics offers and Four Percent offers.

I didn’t promote them. I just sneaked them in there. And yes, my subscribers did click on them.

When I first started the series of four e-mail above, I just wanted to find a way to connect to my subscribers instead of writing e-mails to what seemed like a “black hole in space”.

The obvious answer was to help them in whatever way I can.

Geography prevents me from helping them directly with their issues. So I shared the knowledge I had researched and accumulated over a 10-12 year period, and which had helped me greatly.

As I said earlier, it was a risk. They could have told me “your nuts” and unsubscribed leaving me with a subscriber list of zero subscribers. It went the other way.

I rarely get unsubscribes anymore. I think by opening up and sharing openly, I connected, they connected, and I feel that trust is there.

I’m happy with the results. I encourage all e-mail marketers to share their passions and strategies for maintaining a positive mindset and a “can do” attitude with their subscribers.

I’m just getting started. I used to hate sending e-mails everyday to subscribers. Now I enjoy it. And I have plenty of ammunition left to share.

The NEXT “Big Thing” – The 4% Group and IMC Disrupts the Internet

In the last few weeks I have been telling all of my on-line friends and students to join what I feel is the greatest opportunity to ever be launched in the IM space or niche.

If you market a product or service on the Internet, that is all about to change.

You have heard of “disruption“, haven’t you?

Disruption” occurs when an innovation that creates a new market and value network eventually disrupts an existing market and value network, displacing established market leaders and alliances.

  • We can find examples of “disruptive” forces in the past. Examples are:
  • when the telephone replaced the telegraph for communication
  • when cell phones replaced land lines for personal communication
  • when the personal computer replaced large mainframe computers
  • when LEDs replaced standard lightbulbs
  • when all cameras were replace by digital cameras
  • when Apple innovation disrupted just about everything with their stream of new, innovative products and technology

You get the idea.

What happens during these disruptive innovations?

What happens is that those on the “inside” of new innovations and so-called “early adopters” profit wildly from the disruptive forces at work in the marketplace and the economy.
The wave of disruptive innovation that is sweeping over the Internet and the $112 billion dollar adult learning marketplace today is the world’s first physical college for Internet marketing.

Earlier this year, a small group of on-line marketing millionaires were discussing what is wrong with Internet marketing. Why do 96% of on-line marketers fail to make more than $100 bucks while the other 4% go on to become marketing millionaires?

What can be done to level the playing field so that everyone has a equal chance of succeeding? How can we best help these folks?

And then an idea, a unique innovation, a stroke of genius was born while these three or four guys masterminded this subject and its associated issues.

Here’s the Problem

There is no place you can go and learn how to effectively market a product or service on-line.

On-line marketing is not taught at colleges and universities or anywhere else for that matter.

“Wanna be” Internet marketers are relegated to learn in the trenches by trial and error and failure after failure until they finally “get it” or quit.

They often learn Internet marketing from books written by marketing gurus or over-priced seminars and how-to products offered by the same gurus.

But this type of learning doesn’t work. Either they wind up learning only a small, specific strategy that is only a fraction of the total on-line marketing picture or the unstructured information is blasted at them like a firehose and they suffer information overload in order to learn at least some of the material.

The marketing gurus have a wealth of information to share but they have no idea how to teach effectively. They are marketers, not teachers.

So there needs to be a way to deliver on-line marketing knowledge in a structured way so that the new people who come to IM can learn effectively and receive everything he/she needs to know instead of a tiny piece of the puzzle from a couple of books or seminars.

Traditional learning at colleges and universities is structured and includes a detailed curriculum, usually written by Phd. or Masters degreed teachers. They know how to deliver course material so that effective learning takes place.

But as I already pointed out, colleges and universities do not teach Internet marketing and never will.

Why? Because the risk are too great. Colleges spend years developing new course curriculums and turn out high quality learning.

But the Internet moves at light speed. Things change almost daily. What works one month may be useless the next.

You see the problem? Curriculum at a traditional college would never be able to keep up. So they avoid the subject of on-line marketing.

Liberal arts colleges and universities are also guilty of teaching subject matter but not the specific skills that are needed right now in order for students to find jobs and begin making a living right out of college.

Too many times students from traditional colleges graduate with a lot of book leaning only to join the unemployment lines while they figure out how to pay back the hundreds of thousands of dollars in student loans.

There is a Solution for On-line Entrepreneurs and Businesses

The Internet is now the world’s marketplace. The “brick and mortar” businesses are in decline and those that are still around spend much time and money trying to learn how to effectively offer their products and services on-line.

“Brick and mortar” businesses suffer from the same issue as individual on-line marketers. Where and how do you learn this stuff?

Back to those Three or Four Guys and Their Mastermind

So getting back to those three or four guys who are trying to solve this learning issue for the desperate need of those who need to learn how to market effectively online, consider the following:

What if there were someplace a person could go to learn on-line marketing; a college that only taught Internet marketing?

And what if we brought in college Phd’s and Masters degreed instructors, who are masters at creating structured learning and curriculum, but know nothing about on-line marketing.

And what if we brought these people together with on-line subject matter experts, who know nothing about effective teaching or structured curriculum?

Don’t we get the best of both worlds if we simply bring these people together? Structured curriculum from teaching experts and IM expertise from the gurus who have been marketing on-line successfully for decades.

Working together, courses in IM such as SEO, advertising, traffic, e-mail marketing, market analysis, customer relationships, conversions and sales techniques etc.. could be taught in a structured way instead of piecemeal using the firehose method, which only produces information overload.

Now that’s a stroke of genius. This learning would not only benefit the hundreds of thousands of “wanna be” on-line marketers that come on-line each day but would also benefit the traditional “brick and mortar” businesses who want to add an online presence for their product and company but don’t really know how to do that.

Enter TECademics

So TECademics (Technology united with Academics) was born out of that little mastermind of guys who were searching for a way to solve the issues that I have just described above.

The college professors were hired earlier this year to write structured course curriculum. The IM subject matter experts were hired to provide the course content which would be based on their years of successful application of on-line marketing techniques and principles.

They are working together to create what Internet marketing has never had – “structured learning”; akin to taking a college course. No more “fire hose” teaching where some guru just barfs everything he knows in your face.

TECademics was announced to the world on August 5-7 2016 at a Chris Record 3C conference in Phoenix, AZ.

More about Chris Record and the 3C conference later.

Prior to this time, the public had not been aware of the college or the monumental efforts it took to bring TECademics to fruition.

The first TECademics campus will be located in Phoenix Az. with plans to expand future campuses to other locations, including international locations.

Course work can either be taken onsite, online, or both.

Online courses will be state of the art using live virtual classroom technology and software that allows remote students an experience that permits them to be live in the classroom via two-way live video and two-way live audio.

There has never been an entrepreneurial college. This is the first of its kind. Obviously this will also disrupt the traditional educational system as we know it today.

Now the Best Part – Disruption Creates $$ Opportunity

TECademics needs both students and affiliates to help them get their products promoted so that they become known, trusted, and the preferred training center for online marketing students.

So they set up an incredible affiliate program that pays out $4,800/referral in commissions for a student or an affiliate that joins them.

Let’s stop here for a moment. There is one point that I want to clarify before going forward. This will help you have a better understanding of TECademics referral program.

TECademics has a range of products from $100 to $12,000. These are course package offerings.

Obviously there are thousands of students who desperately need and want this training. And there are also affiliates of TECademics who are more interested in promoting TECademics for commissions, or maybe they want to do both – take some courses and earn commissions at the same time.

The unique thing about this program is that you CAN do both. For example students will determine what area of study they need and sign up for that package. Once a student or affiliate buys into a package, they can promote it and take the courses in that package when time allows or vice versa.

Affiliates must buy into a package in order to promote it. And those are the only packages that they can promote. Commissions are always 40% for any package that you buy into and promote in order to get referrals of students or affiliates to the college.

But there is an Elite package that allows you to take all courses (if you choose to do that) and allows you to promote everything (including all other packages, TECademics events, new TECademics promotions, yearly TECademics car give-aways, TECademics all-inclusive vacations, and the Matching Millions program. The Elite package costs $12k and can be paid with $1,000 down and the rest paid in your TECademics back office in $1k increments.

I wanted it all so I bought into the $12k Elite package. I don’t like limitations. I want to promote it all and I want to take courses where I feel I have weaknesses in my IM skills. And I admit that I do have weak areas.

But the overriding reason why I did this, is because I see the vision regarding where this is going. Not only is this opportunity totally unique and disruptive to the status quo in Internet marketing, I happen to know through my own research that adult learning is a $112 billion dollar marketplace that is growing! And I want to be part of that.

So that’s the point that I wanted to make. I wanted you to understand that there are many product offerings, that commissions are 40% across the board, that you can be both a student and an affiliate, and that you must buy into whatever you want to promote.

(The video features Chris Record, CEO and Founder of TECademics describing the “vision of TECademics)

Let’s Get Back to Opportunity, Commissions, Dollars

This is where we left off before I interrupted the discussion in order to clarify some things about TECademics products and the affiliate vs. student programs.

Regarding the $4,800 commission that I threw out there – That’s the commission for one referral to the $12k Elite package. This is the package that I recommend for affiliates. And you will understand why I feel that way once I share the “Matching Millions” program with you.

But before I do that, let’s crunch some numbers.

If you do that math, it would take an affiliate 2.5 referrals to break even on their $12k investment. 2.5 times $4800/referral = $12k.

After that everything is profit. That’s pretty cool. Even though $12k is a big number, it gets a lot smaller when you put it in perspective.

Everyone knows at least three people who are in need of on-line training or who would be excited to learn of this passive income opportunity. Even if I didn’t have the $12k, I would have gladly put it on a credit card; knowing that I have 30 days before payment is due. During that time I’m confident that I can promote and find three people who are interested in either aspect (student or affiliate) of this opportunity.

But That’s Not All…. The “Matching Millions Program

Every affiliate or student that associates themselves with TECademics participates in the “Matching Millions” program.

Here’s how it works…..

Once you earn $100k in commissions through referrals, TECademics will bonus you another $100k for a total of $200k! And once you earn a million in commissions, TECademics will bonus you another million for a total of $2M dollars!

That’s totally unheard of in the online marketing world!

You have three years to work towards your matching bonuses. And you can collect them only once.

Let’s do a little more math….

21 referrals to the Elite package times $4,800/referral commissions equals $100,800. So for a paltry 21 referrals, you get $200,800 and that includes your matching bonus.

209 referrals to the Elite package times $4,800/referral in commissions equals $1,003,200 dollars or $2,003,200 dollars which includes your matching bonus.

Can you imagine becoming a multi-millionaire with only 209 referrals instead of the usual tens of thousands customers that other online marketing programs require?

This is unheard of in the Internet marketing space. No company or opportunity has ever offered those kind of bonuses.

Now you should see why I bought into the Elite package for $12k and that’s all I promote. I just plunked down the $12k like many others did without question.

And I set a goal to earn my matching $100k by the end of the year and my matching $1M bonus by the end of 2017. I encourage you to do the same.

One last point I want to make is that this program doesn’t compete with anything that you are doing now. Don’t think that you have to drop everything in order to participate in this opportunity.

TECademics has a cool membership level that allows you to join as a ambassador. That means it doesn’t cost you anything AND you get access to Chris Records Vault of free software to download. This is not old, retired junk. This is multi-millionaire training that applies to what is working now. And it’s free. Chris explains in a short video. No strings, no obligation.

But here’s the cool part. Even as a free ambassador, you can promote TECademics course offerings. You don’t earn commissions right away. But interested parties who used your link to join a particular course program, stay tagged to you for life. So in the future if you join TECademics at whatever level, those tagged to you when you had an unpaid free account will pay out 40% commissions to you.

Pretty cool, huh?

(The video below features Michael Hamburger, VP TECademics Sales, explaining the TECademics compensation plan.)

What is the Four Percent Group?

The Four Percent Group is an elite group of about 1.000 marketers that are and will continue to dominate this opportunity. We are the “marketing engine” that drives students and affiliates to TECademics.  And we make big commissions for doing that.

Where did the name come from? It came from the fact that 96% of those working at Internet marketing fail to earn even $100 and they usually quit. The other four percent do whatever it takes to reach their goals and they succeed wildly.

If I said anything that captures your interest, I encourage you to join The Four Percent Group at a minimum. It only cost $49/month to join. And you earn 50% commissions on referrals to the Four Percent Group. That’s a continuity commission which means you get that 50% commission check every month; not just when referrals join.

So if you referred two people to The Four Percent Group and that’s all you did, you would get $44 in commissions every month and that would just about cover your monthly membership dues to The Four Percent Group.

Here’s why it is important to be part of this group…

All the “big guns” in Internet Marketing belong to this group. That should tell you something.  You are in good company. This group includes online legends like Saj P, Miles Seegers, Jon Penberthy, Shaqir Hussyin, Paul Lynch, Vick Strizheus and others. Twelve marketers who were already millionaires joined the Four Percent Group. Does that mean anything? Like perhaps this is a “no-brainer” opportunity?

But I admit that TECademics and The Four Percent Group are not for everyone.

Let’s talk about Multiple Streams of Income – so far, members are collecting commissions from referrals to aWeber, GetResponse, Clickfunnels, ClickMagic, and Clickbank. Why these? Because these are tools that new members need for their promotions. New companies and streams of income are being added daily to The Four Percent Group’s portfolio.

All Four Percenters use the same System to promote TECademics and The Four Percent Group. Systems work. People fail.

You get the system for nothing. Your marketing funnels (Clickfunnels) are created FOR you.

Your e-mail swipes are created FOR you.

Your links are created FOR you.

You don’t need to know anything about Internet marketing. We have no-cost training for new members. And we have members who know virtually nothing about on-line marketing. We also have newbies who are collecting their first commissions ever.

As a Four Percenter, you’ll be invited to join our private, members only mastermind FaceBook group.

You’ll have Support from a tech. hotline and from your peers in the Four Percent Group Facebook mastermind group.

Your leads and referrals are tracked FOR you. This includes Four Percenters that you have referred. Later (even years later) if they decide they need the TECadmenics Elite package for $12k, that’s your $4800k commission; not someone else’s. Your leads and referrals are tagged to you for life.

In conclusion, if your goal is to associate yourself with TECademics, it makes perfect sense to join The Four Percent Group and get the heavy-marketing-lifting done for you.

Lastly, The TECademics Event in November

Chris Record is the founder and CEO of TECademics. As I said earlier, TECademics was launched/announced to the public at Chris’s yearly 3C conference in Phoenix. Chris is a successful, expert, on-line marketer and has been sponsoring his 3C conference for years. Only this year’s conference last August was special. TECademics was introduced to the public for the first time.

The “3C” stands for Create, Capture, and Convert. Create traffic, capture leads, and convert those leads into sales. Those high-level topics cover all you really need to know in order to be successful in on-line marketing.

Many people think you need to be a techie, you need to program in HTML, you need to build complicated stuff like marketing funnels or landing pages, you need to build a website and you have to spend thousands in other tools that you will need in order to be a successful on-line marketer.

Nothing could be further from the truth.  Most of that stuff is either done for you (like in the Four Percent Group) or you can hire others for a pittance to do it for you (,
Anyway, Chris covered all of the 3C’s in three days at the August conference. The upcoming conference is November 19th and 20th and 21st at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas . Chris will be teaching topics such as Shopify, Print-on-Demand, and Facebook Strategies. One topic each day.

By the time you leave the conference, you’ll know everything you need to know about the hottest technologies on the Internet NOW. This in turn will give you a fast start to making commissions with The Four Percent Group and TECademics. And if you feel the need for more training, you can always attend a class at TECademics for your weak areas as part of your $12k Elite TECademics  membership.

I encourage you to get tickets to this conference ASAP. It will literally change the rest of your life.

I think it was Dan Kennedy, a legend in marketing, who said “You become like the five people who you hang around most”. There will be twelve (12) millionaire on-line marketers at this conference. Get a VIP ticket so you can hang out with them.  Make sense?

In closing I would like to remind you that “Systems work, People fail”. Within The Four Percent Group there are already members who have earned their $100K bonus checks when they only became aware of this system and opportunity in June this year. There are also “newbies” who have earned their first commissions in on-line marketing.

The system works. You can either join us or watch us get rich. It’s your choice.

At a minimum I would recommend that you start by joining The Four Percent Group. That’s a great place to start. Don’t think about the Matching Millions program for now. Just join The Four Percent Group, get a couple of referrals so you break even on your monthly dues, and then you’ll eventually catch the vision of where the Group and TECademics are going and where this can take you. That’s when you should start thinking seriously about TECademics Elite and $4,800/referral commissions.

You can join The Four Percent Group here.

** Disclaimer – I can’t promise you results. Your results will depend on the amount of time and effort you put into this opportunity. The examples sited above are only examples of what is possible. Results vary widely.

Have You Had Your Dose of Crime for the Day?

I get up in the morning about 6:00 A.M.. I don’t have a real job so I can get up about whatever time I want. But it gets light here at 6:00 A.M., so I get up.

The wife usually has the news on by then. I call it the “body count”. I hate the news. It’s depressing and totally negative. Who is it that decided that all we Americans are interested in hearing about in the news is who died or got killed while we were asleep?

I mean, really! How would your day go if you could hear some positive information on the news in the morning at 6:00 A.M.? Wouldn’t that empower you and put a smile on your face for the day?

But what we get on the news instead is who murdered who, what mass shooting took place in what school that we might have missed the day before, who did we or Russia bomb overnight, how many civilians were killed, how many psychotic killers escaped from what prisons last night, how many refugees drowned in what body of water while trying to escape a war zone to freedom, how many refugees were turned back from what border to a life of misery and death, how many planes crashed overnight and what was the death count, and most important, how many innocent people died of domestic violence while we were peacefully asleep?

I have to turn it off. It’s just too depressing. How can anyone start the day with a smile on their face, a positive attitude, and enough energy to change their world for the better after listening to that crap!?

Who decided that we need to hear about that stuff at 6:00 A.M.? Are they brain-dead or something? Surely there must be something good that happened in the world while we were asleep. Why can’t we hear about that?

How many governments made decisions overnight that will create a better life for their citizens? What new innovations did mankind discover that will make everyone’s life easier and more fun? How many miracle babies were born? How many towns were restored from natural disasters? How many weapons were destroyed because they are no longer needed?

President Obama appeared on the news the other day to ask why, only in the USA, do we have to have a school mass murder on a regular basis? Crime.

We wake up to reports of crime on the news. We get it again on the news at noon and again at 5:00 P.M..

People who watch TV on a regular basis can get more crime on most channels at night. Those who play games on their computers or on the TV set can get more crime, war, and killing since most popular games are based on those themes.

So you can literally go through an entire day without ever having got away from the subject of crime.

And in the shows that you watch and the games that you play, you can even participate in crime. You can do this on your mobile phone in case a TV or a computer is not available.

And our President asks why are Americans  are so caught up in crime? When we are exposed to crime every waking hour of every day, how do we avoid it? I rest my case. We have no one to blame but ourselves.

If we want to get crime out of our minds, then let’s tell the TV networks that we don’t want to see it on TV or the news.

Let’s tell the FCC to ban computer and TV games that are focused on crime.

And we don’t want to read about crime in the newspapers or in magazines. We want to get through one day without having to deal with crime. Just one. Then they can harp on crime for the rest of the six days of the week. But we have the option of turning the TV off. Right?

What would that be like? Can you get through a day without knowing who got killed in the world while you were asleep? Of course you can.

Does it matter to you one dot who’s spouse shot their mate or kids during your day? Would that change what you do or think about during the day? Of course not.

Unless the event took place in your town. But then you would hear about it through other means such as a phone call, or talking to friends and the neighbors etc..

But com’on; you don’t have to turn on the news to find out what is happening in your neighborhood, do you? If so, then you need to get out more.

I don’t claim to be any different than anybody else. I’m just a retired old fart that is doing whatever I can to make my world a better place for everyone else.

I keep a positive attitude despite the bombardment of the opposite. I’m picky about what I allow to enter my brain so I either ignore or turn off all of the negative news and information that is pushed my way.

My focus is to make each day better than the one before. What’s wrong with that?

Yes, my day is not always peaches, roses, and cream. Bad, disappointing things happen. But instead of whining about those events, I get to work solving those problems in a constructive way. And my life is better for it. It’s satisfying. And the people, family, or creatures that I help are satisfied that someone cared enough to help.

So, in answer to President Obama, my response is the whole dam country is focused on crime because that is all we are fed everywhere we turn. The news media, the trade rags, and the entertainment industry are obsessed with crime and they want to make sure that we, the citizenship of this country, are obsessed with it too.

If you are as weary and tired of this crap as I am, just turn it off.

Refuse to Lose – A True Story

I hate flying. I have nightmares about flying over water and the plane goes down. Everybody gets killed except me. So there I am in the middle of the ocean with sharks swimming all around me. I’m convinced that everything in the ocean wants to kill or eat you. So I never want to be in the ocean. I don’t want to swim in it. I don’t want to boat in it. And I especially don’t want to be flying over it.

I had to fly to Las Vegas for a weekend for business last week. It was a three hour flight and because the 6:00 P.M. CDT flight was delayed several hours, it got dark out during the flight. So I decided to watch a movie to kill time. On the Delta flight, I had thousands of movies to choose from on the screen in front of me. But what do I choose? I chose a movie I had heard a little about from someone called “Unbroken”. I like WWII movies and this movie was about a WWII guy who survived being in a Japanese prison camp for most of the war.

What is ironic about this choice of movies is that the main character is a bombardier on a B52 bomber that went down in the ocean. It was supposed to drop bombs on Japan. The plane was in tough shape and had mechanical problems with both engines. And where did they crash? Into the ocean, or course. My worst nightmare in living color. Why did I choose to watch this movie? What happens? You guessed it. Sharks! And what do the sharks do? They eat one of the three guys who survived the B52 crash into the ocean. How did I know that was going to happen?

I had thousands of movies to watch on that Delta flight from Minneapolis to Las Vegas. Why on God’s green earth did I choose this one?

Now granted there is not much water and certainly no sharks between Minneapolis and Las Vegas. But I hate flying. I hate oceans. And I hate sharks for reasons previously stated!

The “Unbroken” Movie is a True Story

The movie had a great theme.

The central character in the movie, Louie, was this Italian kid who was always getting into trouble at school, in the neighborhood, and with the cops. His family was the only Italian family living in a small town in the USA, that was not used to living with immigrants. It was the 1940’s.

One day, his older brother asked him, why do you always have to get into trouble? They (the townspeople) don’t want us here to begin with. Louie answers and says “ What difference does it make? I’m not worth anything anyway.” Oh, oh. Sounds like a big internal struggle taking place inside this kid’s mind. That was a pretty strange answer to a simple question.

photo of Louis's brother teaching him to win

Louis learns to win

His older brother takes Louie aside and says, “you can be the best at whatever you decide. You can win whenever you decide to win”. Louie was always getting beat up because he was young, bored and different. He was an Italian kid living in “small town USA” with “cookie-cutter” Americans who were not used to anything or anyone outside their routine and mundane lives.

The older brother ran for the school’s track and field team. He was fairly good in his chosen sport and had earned respect from his coach and his team members.

Louie’s answer to his brother’s question, that he didn’t feel that he was worth anything, concerned his older brother. So the older brother felt compelled to intervene in his little brother’s life. He became a personal coach in order to teach his little brother that he could excel in track and field and make something of himself. The older brother’s attitude was that you can win whenever you decide that you can’t be beaten. It’s just a decision: a mental thing. The body and your mind respond accordingly.

Louis Earns a Spot on the Olympic Team

photo of Louis under a B52

Louis under a B52

The little brother, Louie, became quite good at track and field and was asked to run with the upper classmen team. He continued to win races. He had decided that he would remain unbeaten, despite the odds and who may challenge him. He ran in the regional track meets against runners from other states and won.

He caught the attention of the press and was recruited for the US Olympic team. He made the team by continuing to win. He went to the Olympics, which were held in Germany in 1936. He won his event there too and became internationally known. The famed Jesse Owens, the fastest man alive, also ran in that same Olympics.

Louis Joins the Army During WWII

Louie grew up with his older brother teaching him that in life, you win when you decide you will never be beaten. It’s just an attitude. The little brother joined the Army, entered WWII and wound up in that B52 bomber that crashed into the ocean.

photo of a B52 bomber from WWII

B52 bomber from WWII

After the plane crash, he and two of his fellow B52 crewmen were at sea in an inflatable raft for 45 days before a Japanese boat picked them up and made them prisoners of war.

One of the crewmen in the raft died and they had to bury him at sea. He as very negative and decided early on that they were all going to die in that raft. That was his attitude and his prophecy was soon self-fulfilled. He ate all their food because he didn’t see the sense of rationing it over time. He had made the decision in his mind that he was going to lose this battle with survival and that’s exactly what happened. The rest of the men in the raft watched the sharks eat him as soon as they said last rights and dropped him overboard.

His Time In a Japanese Prisoner of War Camp

photo of Louis and crew 45 days at sea

Louis and crew 45 days at sea

Louie and the other crewmen wound up in a Japanese prisoner of war camp. The camp was run by a headstrong, young, arrogant, Japanese officer who made it a habit of beating the hell out of Louie with a bamboo rod to see if he could break Louie’s spirit. The Japanese prison officer recognized upon meeting Louie that Louie was hard and determined. The Japanese officer tried everything. Beating him until he was senseless, making him stand in the same place for days, making him stand upside down for days, making him lift a heavy beams and hold them over his head for days. Everything. But Louie would not be broken. One day, the officer got frustrated and started crying because he could not break this young kid’s spirit. The officer got the idea in his head that if he could break this one determined U.S. soldier, than Japan could break the spirit of the rest of the U.S. forces and perhaps win the war.

You see, the Japanese officer and Louie were just alike. Both had a strong spirit. The officer told Louie that he saw that as soon as the kid came into the prison camp. He saw that Louie had an unbeatable spirit. So the Japanese officer was determined to break him while he paid little attention to the other prisoners. I think deep down this officer knew that if he could not break this one man’s spirit, than how could Japan break the spirit of an entire country like the USA? It was that important to him. He also didn’t like the fact that this kid was a famous Olympian. Japan was also represented in the 1940 Olympics in Germany. This rubbed a little more salt in the officer’s wound.

The War Comes to an End

Photo of Jack O'Connell

Jack O’Connell played Louis

The moral of this movie was that this kid’s spirit was never broken. He always won because he decided in his mind that he would win every time he wanted to win.

The war came to an end. The Japanese officer and the other guards at the prison camp disappeared. They went into hiding in order to avoid being put on trial as war criminals once the allied forces found out how badly they had treated their prisoners. The prisoners were eventually rescued and sent back to the USA.

Another Olympics

Years later, another Olympics took place. It was held (of all places, in Japan, 1964). Louie was chosen to carry the Olympic torch through the streets of Japan and into the Olympic stadium. At that time, he had aged and was an old man. The war had changed him and he saw that the path through life was one of forgiveness, not of hate for your enemies and revenge. He became a Catholic priest and had a family.

The Japanese officer was eventually pardoned for his war crimes by the USA. Louie tried to contact him so he could meet up with him during the Olympic games in Japan. The Japanese officer never came and never responded to Louie’s invitation to forgive and become friends. He Japanese officer still lived in hate for the one man he could not break.

What Louis can Teach Us

Photo of Louis holding the Olympic torch

Louis holding the Olympic torch

It was a great movie and a great theme that taught many valuable lessons. I learned that always having an attitude of winning will make you a winner in any situation; even if that situation is a petty fear of sharks, flying, and oceans. You can beat your fears if you decide that you will never be beaten.

I carried that same positive attitude into my meetings in Las Vegas and those meetings were some of the best that I have attended.

It was just a movie that I had heard mentioned by someone. All I wanted to do was kill time on a boring flight at night. But I got so much more from that one movie.

(Authors note – If you have read many articles on this site, then you must have figured out by now that I’m somewhat of a personal development nut. This is a true story of Louie Zamperini. It is based on the book “Seabiscuit: An American Legend” by Laura Hillenbrand. The movie, “Unbroken” was produced and directed by Angelina Jolie. Decide to win now and keep on winning. It’s just a decision.)

The On-Line Marketer’s Mindset – What Is It?

What Is The Marketers Mindset?

Today, you hear about “the on-line marketer’s mindset” everywhere. Virtually all of the other “top dogs” in on-line marketing agree that not getting your thinking correct and expecting to win big in on-line marketing is not going to happen. The majority of on-line marketers do not get this right at the outset and wind up failing in the end.

But no one ever tells you what exactly they are talking about. Or you get a little piece of how the on-line marketer needs to think, but the rest of the story is left out.

These characteristics and habits were assembled from interviewing a millionaire marketer that I had admired for the past year. He didn’t discover the marketer’s mindset per se. His knowledge came to him as a learning experience while in the trenches. As he thought over his journey in the on-line world, this is what he said is important if you are bent on succeeding as an on-line marketer.

I’m going to give you the whole picture and leave nothing out. So when you hear someone refer to “the marketer’s mindset” you will finally know what they are talking about.

Your mindset as an on-line marketer is more important than anything that you do on the Internet or your computer. Your mindset will sustain you when 98% of other on-line marketers quit or fail.

Why is the Marketer’s Mindset Important?

Your mindset is important primarily because in order to be successful at on-line marketing, you have to think differently than a person off the street. If you don’t change your thinking, you will fail. Once you read what I am about to teach you, you will understand that.

Work as hard at changing the way that you think about your business as you do about conducting the daily tasks associated with your business and you will succeed.

The components of the “on-line marketer’s mindset” are listed below in no particular order. This subject is not “deep”, you just need to make some small but very important changes to the way that you think. If you struggle with specific characteristics, focus on that characteristic until you have mastered it. Then identify another characteristic that you wish to master.

How You Think

If you want to be an on-line marketer, the first change you must make is you must think of your on-line business as a real bona-fide business and not just a hobby that you do in your spare time. Treating your on-line business as a hobby is one of the primary reasons for on-line business failures.

You must begin thinking and acting like a millionaire business owner. Otherwise, you cannot be one. This is something that you also hear a lot, “you can’t be a millionaire until you first think and act like a millionaire”.

This is actually a mind trick. By being what you want to become, you are actually tricking your mind into thinking that you already ARE what you want to become. That thought transition is important. This can be applied to any walk of life. If you want to become a famous surgeon, start thinking now like a surgeon. How you think and act will take you there that much quicker since what you think and how you act is what you will become.

How do you think and act like a successful millionaire business owner? You make gut decisions based on your instincts. You take calculated risks. You get out of your comfort zone and routine and take action on matters of importance even if that action makes you feel uncomfortable. You act when opportunities are presented to you instead of just thinking about them. You stop thinking about money as a scare resource. It’s not. Money is just a means to an end. And you have plenty of it regardless of what your bank account tells you. Your bank account cannot see the checks that are in the mail on their way to you. Start visualizing the money that is coming your way and it will appear according to your belief in yourself and your business.

Priority One – Build A List

Start, grow, and build an audience, not just a List. Forget about leads. It’s far easier to build an audience of raving fans who love to hear from you and buy your products. Always be building your list; not someone else’s list. Sell, sell, sell to your list but you must take time to relate to your audience so that they get to know, like, and trust, you. Be patient. Your audience will not buy from you until they know, like, and trust you.

E-mail is still the #1 money-maker on the Internet. If Google killed your website, your ads, your traffic, and your products, you would still have your e-mail list. With just that list, you can re-build your business.

E-mail your list of subscribers every day. Make this your first priority for the day. Don’t worry if it takes you a couple of hours to come up with a good e-mail. Always tell your readers what you are doing. Give them some tips or something to think about. They need to know that you are a real person. A good practice to get into is to tell them what you will be sending them tomorrow. This creates anticipation so that they are expecting to hear from you tomorrow. Your message could be the only one that they will open.

Priority Two – Write Down Your Goals

You’re heard it said that those who record their goals to paper, achieve them. Take the time to commit your goals to paper. Then review them twice per day; once upon rising in the morning and again when you retire at the end of the day.

The goal is condition your mind to your goals. Your mind learns through repetition. Write them down, review them regularly, and watch them come to fruition.

Procrastination is the enemy. Avoid it at all cost. If a task that must be done keeps nagging at you, do it now. Even if it’s a task with no pay-back, like paying the bills. If you don’t address procrastination, it will grow and spread like a virus.

Provide 10-20 times more value than what you charge for. Always over-deliver. Customers don’t buy things that they NEED. They buy things that they WANT. Buying is an emotional decision; not a rational decision. So pack your product offerings with value so that buying your products becomes a no-brainer for customers.

Your Comfort Zone

And as long as we already mentioned it, you MUST get out of the comfort zone that you have built around yourself. That might be a little scary at first, but push yourself. The really big income is not inside your comfort zone. Ask yourself, what should I be doing today that is not inside of my comfort zone?

Do you hate talking to people on the phone? Then get on the phone with someone. Do you hate making videos? Then create a 90-day challenge for yourself to make a video every day for 90 days. Do you hate webinars? Than start doing them to communicate with your audience and clients.

Make Gut Decisions

Another characteristic that we mentioned is gut decisions. Make gut decisions. The really great decisions come from what you know are good decisions, without even having to think about them. Successful on-line marketers don’t waste time thinking about decisions. They act. Their instincts and gut tell them which direction to go. Practice doing that. You won’t be right 100% of the time. But you will learn from your mistakes and that will make you wiser.

Learn From Your Mistakes

And while we are at it, make mistakes and learn from them. Don’t think of a mistake as a failure. If you learn a valuable lesson by making a mistake, than you will become a very wise man.

Thomas Edison failed with approximately 3,000 experiments to learn how to make the electric light bulb. Had he not make all those mistakes, he would have never found the combination of components that work to produce the light bulb.

Quitting Is Not An Option

And that leads to another very important characteristic of the on-line marketers mindset – quitting is not an option. You never quit nor think about it.

Napoleon Hill in his book, Think and Grow Rich, tells us of a man from the East who went West to find gold and make his fortune. Mr. Darby sold and invested everything he owned in his quest to find and own a gold mine. He excavated for years until all his money and ambition was gone and then he quit and went back East to where he had lived originally.

A former insurance agent bought Darby’s failed gold mine and began excavation. He had only dug three feet from where Mr. Darby had stopped and quit, when the insurance agent discovered a huge vein of gold. The insurance agent got rich. Darby had quit when he was only three feet from gold. Never quit. Your most lucrative campaign could be your next campaign.

Think Ceaselessly

Think, think, and then think some more. Creative thinking is best and usually comes to you as a hunch. Write these thoughts down. These nuggets don’t show up all that often.

Ever notice how most people have earplugs on and are listening to music or talk radio when running, walking, or just sitting? Or what about those who walk around staring at their cell phone? The want distraction so that they don’t have to think. Thinking is painful for some. But you need to be a thinker and creator. Ditch the headphones and use walking, running, or sitting as time for thinking.

Simplify Everything. Simplify, Simplify……

I used to want to do local marketing, then niche sites, then CPA, then software creation, and a whole bunch of other stuff. Don’t do that. Decide how you are going to make your fortune and focus on just that one task until you have mastered it. One focus. One thing. Then you can explore other areas.

Do The Opposite of What Everyone Else Is Doing

Figure out what everyone else is doing and then do the opposite right thing. 99.9% of people are broke or living off their last paycheck. You don’t want to be like them.

Build Your Business on Paid Traffic

Build your business on paid traffic. Paid traffic is the fastest, most scalable, most predictable form of traffic for your business. It’s controllable. As long as you have considered the economics, you will be fine. By economics, I mean test to insure that your results will have more value than your investment. It doesn’t matter if you spend $1,000 to make $1010. You still came out in the black. And all you need to do to achieve better results is to tweak your landing page or traffic provider. The problem is usually one of the two.

Focus Time

Get in the habit of working on your business in 2-3 hour increments of “focus time”. You may think that the harder and longer you work on your business than the greater your chances of succeeding. That’s not true. You accomplish very little when you are tired and worn out. Additionally, your mind grows weary from staring at the same work for hours on end. You need creative thinking; not a lazy mind. So do your most important work when you are fresh and then for no more than three hours. Then go do something else.

During your focus time, you are not to be disturbed. Advise others in your home office. Shut the door. Turn off your cell phone. If you have a land line phone in your office, unplug it and put it in another room. Advise those in your home that you will not be taking phone calls during your focus time. If visitors come to your front door, they should be told that you are very busy and you will get back to them. Shut down your e-mail. In fact, mute any sound that your compute might make. You get the idea?

Then focus on your business and nothing more for three hours. You can set aside more than one focus time during the day. But treat each three hour period the same. Make sure your mind is fresh. No interruptions.

Maintaining Balance In Your Life Is Important

Keep balance in your life. This is one of the biggest mistakes that on-line marketers make. They spend entire days on the computer until they are wasted. And then they do the same the next day.

Their minds are stale from looking at the same thing every day. Their thinking is dull. They need to get off the computer and out amongst real people. The computer is very impersonal. When you have been cooped up in the house for days, have you ever noticed how different you feel after having been with real people? Better yet, these real people are your potential customers. Talk to them. Learn about their successes and failures. Take time to listen to your customers.

Stay Physically Fit

Keep your body as physically fit as your mind is mentally fit for business. Exercise. Walk a mile or two a day. When the body is hurting, the mind cannot focus on the work that needs to be done.

Stay In Touch With Those You Love

Take time to interact with your family and get on the same page with them. You will find that they will be more inclined to honor your focus time if you take time for them.

Work Should Be Fun

Make your work FUN. If you don’t find your work to be fun, then why are you doing it? Don’t allow yourself to get tense or worried while you are working.

Prioritize Everything You Do In Your Business

Make a list of what you need to get done each week and day. And then number each task with the most important task being #1 and so forth. Never sit down at the computer or your business without knowing exactly what you are going to work on. You must have a plan to follow.

The highest priority tasks should be those that produce the most return. Many marketers do the “fun tasks” first and leave the tasks with the highest payout until last. Reverse that order and your monthly income will grow that much faster.

Many marketing tasks are a real drag and we tend to steer away from those. I always found keyword research to be a pain. My website rankings will verify that. I know what I need to do……..

E-mail Can Be A Real Distraction

E-mail is a real interruption to productive work. Set up times to address e-mail and then stay out of it. Check it when you get up in the morning, again at noon, again before the evening meal, and once more before you retire. That should be sufficient. Do not waste hours in e-mail. Spend that time on your important business tasks.

Texting Is A Nuisance

Texting is more of an interruption than e-mail. And the information in a text is usually just chatter. Put some controls on texting and use that time productively.

Don’t Let Your Best Ideas Escape You

Keep a small notepad handy in your pocket or vehicle and write ideas down before you forget them. If you are a blogger, write down your idea for an article. These hunches usually produce the best articles.

Use The 80/20 Rule In Your Business

Spend 20% of your time learning, 80% of your time doing. You absolutely must always read a good positive book(s). Always have some available. Do not read fiction. You want to know how other successful men and women think. Read about the people you want to be like. You should finish a good positive book every two weeks.

Always read awhile from your good book before you turn out the light and retire. The last information that you put into your head before going to sleep is what your mind works on all night while you sleep. Your mind never stops working. Make sure that what you put in there before retiring is positive.

Driving Is Wasted Time – Use It To Advance Your Business

Consider having good, instructional audios on CD for use in your car. Traveling from point A to point B in a car is mundane and boring. The news on the radio is almost always negative. Music is nothing more than a distraction. But what if you could learn something that you didn’t know from an instructional CD which you could play on your car’s CD player? Which would have a bigger impact on your business; the negative news, music, or a learning course on a CD?

Invest In Yourself, Hang With People You Want to Become

Invest in yourself as your business grows. Go to seminars. The fastest way to get to where you want to be is to find people who are doing what you want to achieve and model them. Don’t try and reinvent the wheel. Copy those who have already accomplished what you want to accomplish and become them.

Who you hang around with is who you become. If you want to be rich, hang around rich people who you respect and admire. If you are always in the company of red-necks who have no money, that is who you will become.

Stop Caring About What Others Think About You

Stop worrying about what other people think of you. The only people who are ‘liked’ by everyone are those who do nothing, say nothing, and ultimately accomplish nothing. Many marketers are laughed at for trying to get rich via Internet marketing. Ignore them. The laughter is only temporary.

Make Things Happen In Your Business Or Nothing Will Happen

My father used to tell me that there are three types of people in the world – those that make things happen, those that watch things happen, and those that stand around and wonder what the hell just happened. You must be in the first group – those that make things happen. Remember in a previous life when you were bored and waiting for a change to make your life more interesting and fun? Nothing ever happens until you make it happen. So be that person that makes things happen.

Learn What Your Customers Want and Need

Learn what your customer’s greatest needs are and what their biggest struggles are. Just ask them and they will be glad to tell you. Seek to answer these needs and resolve their struggles by being a problem-solver. This tactic alone will make you rich.

Out-Source and Delegate

Don’t try and do everything yourself. Get help. Start outsourcing early. You must delegate everything that someone else can do for you better and faster. and are great places to get inexpensive help for mundane or repetitive tasks. Consider a “virtual assistant”. You will know when it’s time to get help when you start feeling the work and information overload.

Employees vs. Contractors

There will come a time when you need permanent help. Get private contractors and not employees. Employees require too much government paper work, programs, benefits, taxes, reporting, etc..

Website Performing Badly? Speed it Up With These Tips

Optimizing your website for maximum speed when loading pages in a browser is extremely important if you want to retain visitors to your website. Statistics show that the average Internet user will wait 3 seconds or less for a page to load before they venture off of your site and go browse somewhere else.

Before you can engage your website visitor with your valuable content, you must first insure that they stay on your site long enough to see your content. You can do that by insuring your Home Page loads fast and that load speed is consistent throughout the rest of your pages.

There are specific tasks that you can complete to insure that your site loads fast and remains that way. None of these tasks are particularly difficult nor expensive. You do NOT need to work tirelessly on SEO to accomplish good page loading speed.

Let’s look at some of the most important page load optimization strategies and then I’ll show you where the “tweaks” can be found in your back-office.

In these examples, we will be using a WordPress website since WordPress dominates the content delivery platform on the Internet.

Visitors to my website blog frequently comment that the site that you are on right now, ScottAlanReed Dot Com, loads extremely fast. And they wonder if I’m doing some tricks to make that happen. I’M NOT! I’ll show you in the video, exactly what I do to insure fast load time.

Get an IP Address That Is Yours, and Yours Alone

By default, when you sign up with a web hosting company, your site shares an IP address with any number of other websites at the same hosting service. That means that your web traffic is competing with the web traffic of other websites that are sharing the same IP address that your site uses.

If those other websites are getting a lot of traffic, yours slows down and vice versa. This leaves your load time at the mercy of whoever is sharing the same IP address as you. So stop sharing your IP address with other websites so that the speed of your website is not dependent on theirs.

Think of an IP address as being the highway into and out of a web server, and one to many domains . You share that highway with other websites; but you don’t have to. My hosting company ( offers a dedicated IP address to my website for about $4.85/month. My IP address is mine alone. I don’t share that highway with anyone. I share the web server with others. But the highway into and out of my website belongs to me.

If my website ever slows to a crawl, I would want to consider getting and paying for a dedicated server so that I can monopolize the memory and CPU power of the server for my needs alone. That would be expensive at $125/month. That time will arrive soon enough. For now, I recommend a dedicated IP address for your website in order to boost your sites page load time.

Run Your Domain On CloudFlare – It’s Free

CloudFlare is a CDN or Content Delivery/Distributed Network. A CDN is a large distributed system of servers deployed in multiple data centers around the world and Internet. The goal of a CDN is to serve content to end-users with high availability and high performance.

CloudFlare works just like Amazon owns hundreds of data centers around the world.

Amazon handles an incredible amount of traffic quickly by recognizing the visitor’s geographical location and then by connecting the visitor to the Amazon data center that is geographically closest to them in order to maximize the speed of the Amazon website.

I use CloudFlare for and several of my other websites. I don’t pay anything for this service. Use of CloudFlare speeded up my blog website dramatically and is the primary reason why I am able to achieve fast page load times.

I’ll show you how to add your website to CloudFlare in the video below.

Also there is a CloudFlare plugin that you must install, but it’s also free and there are no complicated options to set up. All of the plugins that I mention in this article are free from and can be found in Plugins | Add New | Plugin Name (or search).

If you have heard a rumor that the CloudFlare network is rife with spammers, don’t believe it. I heard the same rumor a year ago before I started using CloudFlare. My sites are not getting spammed nor attacked. So much for rumors.

Use a Caching Plugin

You absolutely must have a cache plugin on your website. A cache stores the most frequently accessed pages and page elements of your website in memory so that they can be retrieved quickly the next time the page is accessed. If you are not using a cache, every single page on your site that is accessed is being fetched from disc or the server HDD. Fetching something from disc is a slow process.

There are good cache plugins and not so good cache plugins. I recommend WP Super Cache created by Automattic, W3 Total Cache, or WP Super Cache – Clear All Cache.  Yoast has a caching plugin that is good but it has a ton of settings. They can be complicated to set up. But the one that I use isn’t too technical. And it gets the job done. This speed enhancing strategy is likely the second most effective page load speed booster, second only to CloudFlare.

Keep a Handle on Article Revisions, Visitor Comments, and WordPress Databases

In the course of composing new article content for your website, you create multiple revisions of the same article. Every time you save your work, you create another draft copy of the article that you are creating.

I have over 60 articles on my blog. It’s not uncommon for me to have 10 revisions of one article before I am ready to publish that article. If that were true for all articles that would be 600 copies of content of which I am only concerned with the final published draft of 60 articles.

Get rid of the old revisions. They drag down the performance of your website.

User Comments can do the same thing. It’s not unusual for me to have 4-6 thousand SPAM comments every couple of days residing in the SPAM queue waiting for my review and approval.

Not all of these comments are really SPAM. A SPAM comment on my website is any comment that contains more than two links. The primary link in a comment is the name of your website. Your e-mail address is another link. If you put something in the body of your comment like “please visit my blog at this link and tell me what you think”, that is a third link and your comment will fall into the SPAM queue.

Many websites automatically delete SPAM sight-unseen by the site owner. Most SPAM must be deleted manually. Since not all SPAM is really SPAM, I review most SPAM quickly and look for the comments that were made by the visitor who never intended to SPAM my site. It is easy to accidentally create SPAM. I have found some of my best and most constructive comments in SPAM. It’s obvious that the person who created the comment did not intend to create SPAM. And it’s a simple matter to weed out the offending link and approve the comment.

However, no one has the time to review and edit 6,000 SPAM comments. I’ll peruse a half-dozen pages of SPAM and delete the rest. Leaving massive numbers of unapproved comments in your comments queue will drag down the performance of your website. I’ve seen SPAM comments occupy 166 pages in the SPAM queue. That’s like pulling an anchor around your website. Get rid of that dead weight and do it often.

Fortunately, there is a handy WordPress plugin called “Optimize Databases After Deleting Revisions” that will handle this. The plugin not only keeps your WordPress databases clean, it also deletes all old article revisions (except the most recent revision) AND empties the SPAM queue for you.

I’ll demo this plugin for you in the video below so that you will see the actual size of my website in megabytes before and after optimization. There’s a big difference. The larger your website in megabytes or gigabytes the slower it runs, unless you have taken steps to compensate for this, like moving your site to a dedicated server. It isn’t necessary to do that with most sites. And as I said before, dedicated servers are expensive.

Getting back to the “Optimize Databases After Deleting Revisions” plugin,I run this plugin after reviewing comments in order to keep my site running on all cylinders. You should too.

WordPress Plugins Can Impede Performance

This is kind of a touchy matter. You need plugins on your site. But too many or the wrong plugins can be a drag on performance. It’s a judgment call. You will have to decide if the plugin functionality is worth the drag it puts on performance. Just don’t get “plugin happy” because plugins will come with a price in lost performance for your site.

Really “heavy duty” plugins should be tested in advance of use. If performance has been affected, your visitors will let you know in their comments when page load times are slower or are getting intolerable. By “heavy duty” I mean plugins that are described as doing just about everything you can imagine except shine your shoes.

If you are not using a plugin, deactivate it and then choose to delete the plugin’s files. Deactivation does not remove the plugins files, which means that the plugin PHP code still resides on your website. When WordPress prompts you with “Delete Files?” upon deactivating a plugin, choose “Yes”. If you change your mind and find a use for the plugin you can always reinstall it.

Don’t Host Your Own Videos

Most video files are huge. Do not store them in the Media section of your WordPress website. There are plenty of free video hosting websites available. YouTube is the most obvious one. will also store videos for free with their free plan. Vimeo also offers free video hosting accounts.

Be Conscious of Image Sizes

Using photos on your website is important for illustration and engaging your audience. But the use of too many photos, or photos that are too large can drag down page load times. There’s no sense in loading a 20MB image file when you’re only going to display it as 300×300 pixels! Image quality is important, but only if it is noticeable. Image quality is achieved by using higher pixel concentrations (resolution). But resolutions in excess of 72 dpi (dots per inch) are not appropriate for the Web.

There are some plugins that will help you control the impact of images on your page loads. The WP plugin will optimize JPEG compression and strip the unnecessary metadata to make photo files smaller. You might also consider the Lazy Load plugin, which will only load images when they are visible to the user.

Optimize Your JavaScript and CSS

If you still cannot get a handle on slow page loads, you might consider plugins to optimize your JavaScript and CSS. I do not use these plugins because my page load speed is good. But as websites increase in size (and they will as you add more content over time) these plugins will help speed things up.

For the longest time, one of the most trusted solutions for shrinking down your CSS and JavaScript files was a plugin called WP Minify. It’s still pretty good at making those files far more compressed and efficient, but the plugin hasn’t been updated for over two years. A more up to date solution would be Autoptimize, which effectively performs the same kinds of actions to your JavaScript, and CSS.

Summing It All Up

This is how I achieve fast page loads on Scott Alan Reed Dot Com. No tricks.

  • Get your own dedicated IP address.
  • Subscribe your website to CloudFlare. It’s free and it makes a big difference.
  • Use a caching plugin to cache pages and other elements that are accessed or viewed most often.
  • Use a plugin to clean your WordPress databases, the SPAM queue, and old revisions of posts.
  • Minimize plugin use. Delete plugin code that you are not using.
  • Do not store video files on your website. Use a service. Many offer free accounts.
  • Avoid huge photo files. 72 dpi resolution is sufficient for the Web. If unsure about resolution, look at the file properties.

I have not had a need to implement the following for faster page loads.

  • Use a plugin to optimize your JavaScript and CSS files.

If you have implemented all of the above steps but are still facing unacceptable page load speed, I would first consider looking around for a better hosting service. And if that doesn’t resolve your problem, you may need to consider putting your website on a dedicated file server.

Most web hosts offer several packages for improving website performance. Some hosts have optimization consulting experts on staff and available for a nominal fee. They will evaluate your website to insure that it is running at peak performance.

Web hosting is highly competitive. And because of competition, these companies use special service offerings to  compete against each other. Take advantage of these services. Since competition is stiff, these services are often offered to you at bargain prices.

We’re Mad as Hell! And We’re Not Going to Take It Anymore!

I rarely write about politics. Primarily for two reasons. My feeling has been that government is just too big and complicated to deal with anymore. So there’s nothing one person can do about political issues except vote.

Secondly, it’s easier for me to be apathetic and look the other way than it is to complicate my life with daily worrying about political issues that I can do nothing about.

So I’m guilty; guilty as hell. I’m guilty of not giving a rip about what goes on in Washington D.C..  And it’s that kind of attitude that has got us where we are today. I contribute to that mess. And I’m sure that a lot of other folks do too.

However, I have some good news and some bad news……..

First, The Good News

The good news is that  it’s no longer a secret what is wrong with our economy and government. Some say it’s an Obama problem. It isn’t. Some say it’s a problem with Democrats in general. That’s not true. Others say we didn’t have these problems until we pushed this “global economy” thing and now that the whole world is just one giant economy, our political/economic affairs are in shambles.

But everyone seems to know that a big problem does indeed exist. That’s good. That’s a start….

The White House

Neither party seems to be able to put forth true leaders for President. What ever happened to the Abe Lincoln’s, the Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s, and the John F. Kennedy’s of the world? You know; people who could lead and had vision. We’re in a leadership vacuum with only a 40% approval rating for the current President.

The Congress

What happened to our representation in Congress? We elect a bunch of “no-bodies” that no one ever heard of and then once they arrive in D.C., their only interest is in getting rich on our tax dollars and spending whatever is left over. Have you ever wondered why one candidate would spend $100 million dollars in order to gain a seat in Congress? That new record was set in the most recent mid-term election by a candidate for the U.S. Senate, who would represent North Carolina, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

What is it that causes candidates to desperately risk anything and everything in order to get a seat in the federal government? I don’t think that it has anything to do with representing the issues that most concern you and I.

The Judicial Branch

The judiciary branch is supposed to be non-partisan. But the judges on the Supreme Court are appointed by the sitting President, and the President takes care to appoint a “good ole boy” whose philosophy is closely akin to that of the President and the President’s party. So much for the non-partisan part.

How many more years is the Court going to debate abortion? That debate began in 1973. How long will gay rights be debated? The debate started in 2003 with Lawrence vs. Texas. That was eleven years ago. Is there anyone in our government who is capable of making a decision?

Oops! There’s Also Bad News

Now the bad news…. We let all this happen. By we, I mean all of us. We have been apathetic all these years about what takes place in Washington D.C. primarily because we all feel that there’s nothing to be done about it.

Like I said, I’m just as guilty as you are. But as the old adage goes, “you can try the patience of a saint”. I’m not a saint but I’ve been told more than once that I’m pretty short on patience. Now I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore. You may feel the same way once you watch the following video.

I don’t know where this video came from. Somebody uploaded it to YouTube in March 2009. Our current President took office January 1 of the same year. One of my wife’s good friends sent the video to us in e-mail and my wife asked me to watch it.

It’s easy to be apathetic about politics and then go on with your life. But when someone throws everything that is wrong with government in your face in 6 minutes, it’s pretty intense. I was livid. I was aware of the issues. But, due to my disinterest in politics, I try not to think about them.

  1. Why are our “public servants” in Congress exempt from Social Security when the rest of us are expected to live on a puny S.S. check once we turn 62 years of age?
  2. Why do our “public servants” get to retire on full pay for life when the majority of the people that they represent cannot even make ends meet in retirement? After the Great Recession,  many “baby boomers” can no longer afford to retire.
  3. Why do our “public servants” get fee medical/dental insurance for life when the rest of us get “Obamacare”?
  4. Why do our “public servants” vote on their own pay raises in secret when their constituents haven’t see a pay raise in years? (Caterpillar Tractor Co. comes to mind. Bloomfield Business Week Magazine recently reported that workers at Caterpillar haven’t seen a pay raise in over 10 years).

Now Let’s Cut to the Video!

I’m going to stop jabbering for fear of getting myself into more hot water. WATCH THE VIDEO! It’s good and it’s well done. How good, you say?

I’ll share this with you. I received unverified information that a White House staffer discovered the video on YouTube and made Mr. Obama aware of the video. Obama watched it and was deeply disturbed by its content. So much so that he secretly summoned the video creator (a civilian) to the White House. Before doing that, he instructed his staff not to mention or talk about the video or the meeting with the video’s author. There was to be no press or even an acknowledgement that the White House knew anything about the video. As I said, I cannot verify this information. Take it for what it’s worth. It came to me via an e-mail stream from people that I know and trust. WATCH THE VIDEO.

So how did that feel? I was pretty much left speechless. How much of our money do you suppose is being wasted in Washington D.C.?

Don’t even attempt to answer that. So what now? I’m not feeling quite so apathetic anymore. I seem to have been shaken out of my political stupor. Or maybe it was the video in combination with the most recent Congressional mid-term election fiasco.

Time to Take Action!

Here’s what I intend to do. First, I’ll send that tea bag to my Congressmen. I have plenty of tea bags. They need to get tea bags in the mail year round.

Then I will bookmark the contact information for the two Senators from my state (Wisconsin) and the House representative from my district. And I will be more vocal about what they are doing (if anything) in Congress.

Do you have any idea how easy it is to get on-line, click on a bookmark in your browser, and fire off an e-mail to your Congressional representatives to let them know how you feel about the issues at hand? I can do that. Heck, I send and receive all kinds of e-mail in the course of a day. Why shouldn’t I pop off a couple of e-mails and let my guys in Washington know what I think about the way that they are behaving?

What would happen if all of us did the same? Now that’s a pretty scary thought.

  1. How much money do you think this country could save if we asked Congress to retire on the average retirement stipend of their constituents instead of full pay for life?
  2. And as a bonus for our government representatives, let’s require them to pay into Social Security, just like we do. So that they can enjoy that Social Security check when it arrives every month after the age of 62. But they must be careful not to let greed overtake them. Because if they have any ideas about retiring rich, that puny little Social Security check gets taxed so that what’s left can barely buy a tank of gas. I know that from first-hand experience.
  3. How much more would our government save if we asked our Senators and Representatives to reduce their monthly pay to the average monthly pay of their constituents? No need to vote on raises anymore. If average monthly pay for their constituents goes up, so does the pay of Congressmen from that state or district. If it goes down, same deal for Congressmen. Maybe they would give a little more consideration to raising the minimum wage IF IT DIRECTLY IMPACTED THEIR PAY!
  4. How much more would this country save if we asked Congress to locate and buy their own medical and dental insurance, just like we do? Do you think that would change their opinion of ObamaCare, which the majority of the people in this country hate?

Why is it that our representatives in Washington D.C. do not live under the same set of laws and policies that we do?

Take Action With Me. I Did the Leg-work Below For You

I’ll stop pestering the issue now. I think you get the point. In order to make your life easier, here are the bookmarks that you need in order to fire off an e-mail to your Congressmen whenever the urge strikes you.

The House of Representatives (

  1.  In the upper right hand corner of the Home Page, just below the search bar, note that is says “Find your Representative”.
  2. Enter your zip code and click on Go.
  3. On the next page you’ll see a thumbnail photo of your representative on the left.
  4. Next to the thumbnail photo you’ll see a little envelope icon. Click on it.
  5. Now you are ready to type your e-mail and let your representative know what is on your mind. How hard was that?

(Hmmm. It says the House is not in session now, November 8, 2014. What a surprise! Did I miss a holiday or something?)

The Senate (

  1.  Again, in the upper right-hand corner of the Home Page, you will see a drop-down menu where all you need to do is pick your state and click Go.
  2. Bingo. The next page displays your senators information.
  3. No thumbnail photos this time. But note that each Senator has their own website. Click on the link.
  4. That will take you directly to their contact page on their website where you can compose your message right on their page.
  5. Note that there is a check box so that you can request a response to your message from your Senator. How cool is that?

Now when writing to your Congressmen, there’s no need to be eloquent and proper. You are exercising your right to free speech. The contact information is there specifically for your use. Just be you. There’s something about being you that makes what you write become real. Does that make sense?

Be nice and be polite. Being nice gets results. Being rude, disrespectful, and going into a rant tends to get ignored.

Summing It All Up

I found the video to be so compelling that I had to do something. I hope that you feel the same way. I promise not to write about politics anymore.

My tea bags are on their way in the mail to my one Representative and my two Senators.

My bookmarks are saved in my browser. I think the first issue that I will raise in e-mail with my Congressmen will be about pay. I want to know how much I am paying them and how they feel about reducing that amount to the average pay of the constituents in their district or state.

And I think it’s only fair that I mention that I support performance raises. Their constituents can vote on their congressmen’s performance each year and also vote on what percentage increase/decrease they feel is warranted based on the performance rating scale. Let’s make this easy and do the voting online based on sufficient e-mail reminders from our representatives. We’ll work out the details later.

Did you watch the video in it’s entirety? Did you send your tea bags? Did you bookmark your representatives web page or website? Good for you! Now we’re doing something about the problems identified in the video, and we’re no longer sitting on our “bums”.

Where Did This Theme and Colors Come From?

So many visitors have asked me how this website template came into being. And they want to know how the websites color scheme was chosen; especially the “blended” woods and water theme on the Home Page.

Introducing a New Series of Articles on Blogging Finesse

I decided to tell the whole story of the template and colors as an introduction to a series of articles that I will be writing on blogging. Those articles will be slanted towards helping other bloggers to enhance their blog sites with custom templates and plugins.

I’ll also address the most worrisome characteristics when creating posts for a blog – writer’s block and writing style. What do you do when you can’t think of anything to write about? How do you start an article and get into what you really want to communicate? How do you know anyone will read what you have have written?

We’ll talk about those things in the upcoming blog series of articles. But for now, let’s talk about how this blog got started, the template, the theme, and the colors.

Here we go.

A Strange Name for a Website Blog

Some years ago, I think it was 2008, my wife (Mary) and I decided that we wanted to learn what all the fuss was about in Internet marketing. So we hired a consulting firm in Utah to teach us about Internet marketing, affiliate marketing, drop-ship marketing, and ecommerce marketing.

We were clueless at that point in time. We didn’t know anything about Internet marketing. What we did know was that I retired early, I had a technical background, and I needed something to do once I left my corporate 9-5 job.

We paid the consulting firm in Utah $13,000 for a six month program to build a website and teach us how to use it. The consulting firm had been recommended to us by Robert G. Allen, the real estate tycoon. The short video below features Robert talking about his new book, “Multiple Steams of Income”. He and Stephen Covey also co-authored “Multiple Steams of Internet Income”. Good stuff.

The decision was made that ecommerce training was a good place to start. So under the consulting firms direction, we began to create a website called

The consulting firm chose the web hosting company ( and also chose the web development application, which would be WordPress.

The original domain name ( was kind of weird. But that’s all that we could come up with. The name of the website reflected a common phrase used in the Midwest that describes the most desirable place in the upper Midwest to visit and live – the Northwoods of Wisconsin.

The Northwoods refers to the extreme north of Wisconsin where woods, wilderness, and water are common. The Northwoods is a favorite vacation destination for residents of Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Minnesota, and Missouri due to the endless woods and more than 10,0000 lakes. It is common for local Realtors, when selling land or residences in this area, to brag, “This IS the Northwoods” (with the emphasis on the word IS) insinuating that the property that they are selling is a true reflection of living in the very heart of the Northwoods of Wisconsin. They wanted to let their customers know that.

I had always had an interest in real estate and had earned my broker’s license ten years previous. In order to expand my real estate knowledge, I accepted an offer to manage a brokerage in the Northwoods for Coldwell Banker for a few years. So I was exposed daily to this local habit of bragging that the property being sold really IS in the deep Northwoods.

Thus the original website name. That would be changed later. But let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves in this story.

What Would the Website Look Like?

The website would be an ecommerce site and we would sell things that are unique to the Northwoods and made by the local artisans in the area. These included things like air-brushed saw blades (the kind used to fell trees in the 1800s), books, photos, quilts, wood burning scenes on birch or kitchen cabinets, home-made candles scented with the smell of the Northwoods, and so on.

Our coach at the consulting firm that we hired, created a website using WordPress. I didn’t know anything about WordPress at the time; or any other website platform, for that matter.

They asked me what the theme should look like. I told them to make the theme look like the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Use fall colors and show some water and trees. The colors of northern Wisconsin are incredible in the fall. I sent them some photos of fall colors in this area (below). Can you guess which photo found it’s way onto the Home Page? It’s the one on the bottom left. The woods and water page header was also my idea. But even though I specified fall colors, the faint fall scene blended into each page background was Stephanie’s idea (our web developer). She deserves credit for some serious originality for that design.

The design that Stephanie came up with was rather remarkable. That is the origin of the Home page. In addition to the $13,000 that we paid them to teach us the basics of Internet marketing, we paid Stephanie another $2,500 to design the Home page and create a template for the rest of the site. The photo thumbnails on the Home page were my idea. They provide links into the rest of the site to complement the main menu of links. I also insisted on a photo slider at the top of the Home page. I wanted something animated on the Home Page.

All of this was built on a paid theme from called Coda. Coda is no longer available but Woo Themes has many other custom themes that I like even more than Coda. If you want a stand-out blog site, seriously consider a custom paid theme. They are not all that expensive.

The fall colors used on the site are as follows.

Page background: DFCAA1 (I can’t remember the color name)
Page headings 556B2F (dark olive green)
Page text 7F532A (saddle brown) was supposed to be an eCommerce site but that’s not how it turned out, for a couple of reasons.

The website design was completed. But the website content was not. Our coach quit the consulting company we had hired and went to work as a communications expert for a Senator in Washington D.C.. Our replacement coach was an ATV nut from Salt Lake City and had little experience with WordPress. We didn’t know anything about WordPress at that point in time. So continued development got a bit rough.

We hobbled along with our second coach for a few months and then he left the consulting firm for another opportunity. Things got worse. We had the bare bones of a website but no content. To make matters worse, we had no idea how we would logistically acquire, package, and deliver durable goods made in the Northwoods or anywhere else for that matter.

The website languished. The consulting firm that we had hired did not offer us a replacement coach or a refund of the money that we had paid them. Instead they gave us lifetime access to their corporate website and course material as well as phone and email support forever. In other words, I think they expected us to teach ourselves about this Internet marketing thing.

They were very gracious and kept in touch with us. But with no plan and no direction, just sat there on the Internet while I paid the yearly hosting fees. It sure looked cool but it did essentially nothing since it had no content.

A year later, we still had the Internet marketing itch and hired yet another consulting firm to teach us the basics of affiliate marketing and drop ship. We paid them $9,000 for a six-month program. They were owned by Mike Filsaime, a legend in affiliate marketing. Due to Mike’s reputation, we knew that we were going to nail this Internet marketing thing and make some serious cash while having loads of fun doing it.

But That’s Not the Way That It Turned Out

My interest was in affiliate marketing. I was able to ascertain that that is where the money was at. Drop ship, and eCommerce seemed to be a pain since we had to deal with taking orders, shipping, returns, customer support etc..

But the new consulting firm that we hired wanted to start with drop ship and get into affiliate marketing later. So that is where we started.

I was bored with drop ship but muddled through and did the assignments for a couple of months. Then I started to miss appointments with my coach because I had not done the assignments.

And then the proverbial sh_t hit the fan. I discovered that material in my training manuals was outdated. Websites that I was supposed to study and review no longer existed. So I put the matter to my coach. He eventually admitted that some training material needed to be updated and commented that it was a challenge to keep everything up to date in a fast moving environment like the Internet. So I asked him directly, “am I learning outdated material, old strategies, and old methods of doing things that likely will never work in today’s environment. He reluctantly said Yes. And that was the end of that coaching program. There was no refund offered for the course fee.

So we were out in the cold again. And we still owned and paid hosting fees for which still did nothing except occupy server space.

I Took Matters into My Own Hands – No More Coaching

By that time, I was even more determined to master this affiliate marketing thing. So I got a Clickbank account and taught myself WordPress by building a new website called or something like that. The site featured all the top ways (and products) for making money from home via affiliate marketing.

To build the site I used a very challenging theme that was based on an online magazine framework. That is what made this theme so challenging. The framework seemed to have a mind of its own when it came to banner and article placement. It took months of trial and error to figure the framework out. I featured products like Clickbank Pirate, Commission Breakthrough, Stealth Profit Machines, Profit Siege, and many others. Once completed, this website was a marvel and I was a WordPress expert.

But I was clueless when it came to driving traffic to the site. And, of course, Google was not going to rank an affiliate marketing site. They hate affiliate marketers.

So this new site lasted for about six months and died a natural death. BUT, and this is a big BUT, I had mastered WordPress when building this site. So it was not a total loss.

Back to

With my new WordPress skills, I began to putz with our original, unfinished website. I like to write and I needed a release so I wrote some articles and published them. After all, was a WordPress site. And what is the most popular blogging platform on the Web – WordPress!

I still didn’t know how to drive traffic. And Google was not impressed that I had switched from affiliate marketing to blogging. So I waited. And before you knew it, I had comments from visitors. And then hundreds of comments. And they liked what I was writing! So I wrote more. I could hardly keep up with their demands. It was crazy. I still don’t know how these folks found my blog amongst the millions of other blog sites on the Internet.

It couldn’t be keywords that brought these visitors. Many of my articles had no keywords. I learned about SEO later. But to this day, my rule is this:

1. I write an article from the top of my head from start to finish.
2. Then I go back and ask myself – what is this article about? What are the main ideas and keywords/phrases.
3. If a keyword or phrase is not used within the article, I don’t claim it. My rule is that if it can’t be found in the article, it’s irrelevant.
4. I don’t write articles around keywords to get rank. I write what pops into my mind and worry about keywords later. I often wonder if other bloggers do the same. I heard the other day from the guy who writes the biggest blog on the Web that he finds the keywords first and then writes the article around the keywords. I thought you were supposed to write articles for people, not words?

The Domain Name Has to Go

I never did like But it’s an intimidating task to change the domain name on an existing website. Especially when thousands of visitors have RSS feeds or bookmarks linked to your domain name.

Nonetheless, it had to be done. I hated the name. And it’s a personal blog. I wanted to brand my name. So I changed the name a couple of years ago but kept the old domain name for over a year and parked it so that it still pointed to That way, bookmarks and RSS feeds would not break.

And then I let ThisIS expire. It didn’t hurt that much. Traffic took a dip for about six months. Google changed the age of the website from five years old to brand new, which hurt any ranking that I had acquired due to website age. You can always depend on Google to screw you one way or another.

What’s in the Works For the Site?

More video!! I was on Jeff Walker’s personal blog and he has video on every article. I loved it. Never mind that he is a millionaire many times over and his videos are professionally done. On a side note, Jeff Walker is an Internet legend. He was launching his own information products in 1996 when the Internet was in its infancy. He created Product Launch Formula off the top of his head. And now that is the only way that new products are launched on the Internet. He’s also a great guy.

More photos in-line with the articles. Previously, if I had a lot of photos to share, I would put them in galleries and link an article to the gallery. But I don’t think anyone pays any attention to the galleries. I’ve had a lot of requests for more photos in-line with articles.

A survey or two or three. I have no clue what topics are most popular. When I first started blogging, I would write about the amazing outdoors around where I live and the multitude of outdoor recreation activities and wildlife. Folks liked that stuff and still dig around in my archives to find it.

Now I write about topics to get you to think, expand your mind, and develop as a person. Articles are longer and more in-depth because that is what you asked for. But many of my best articles go unread.

So I’m stumped. Time for a survey.

I’m going to break one of my golden rules of blogging and put some ads on the site. But they won’t be ads for stupid things like iPhones or feminine care products, or men’s testosterone supplements. They will be ads for tools that I use on a daily basis to make my business go.

I wrote an ebook about the three primary marketing models that I use to make a six-figure online income. You guys don’t know about this stuff because I do marketing in the background and not in your face. So if you ever wondered how I make some bucks without advertising like crazy on my site, now you will find out what goes on behind the scenes if you read the ebook. It’s free.

Finally, you have the opportunity to influence the direction of this website through your comments and feedback. I’m sure you all know that my e-mail address is by now. That and my other social contact information is listed under Contact on the main menu bar. If you would like to see something in particular for content, drop me an e-mail and tell me.

You don’t know how many folks ask me in their comments to drop them an e-mail. Say what? I’ve never been able to figure out why they don’t just drop me an e-mail and tell me what’s on their mind.

Summing It All Up

So that’s how the colors, theme, design and all that came together. I chose the fall colors, thumbnails, water scenes, and Home Page slider, Stephanie chose the Woo Theme, framework, and made a real hit with the page background.

But that leaves one problem for me. This theme is old and unsupported. It’s not mobile responsive and I get a lot of complaints about that from mobile users. If I had an ounce of sense I would get a newer theme that is more powerful and responsive. But I have thousands of visitors come to whose initial reaction is, “Woah, what the hell is this!!? I can’t believe this theme! I’ve never seen anything like it!”

So what do I do? The obvious solution would be to find Stephanie, give her a new theme and framework like Thesis and tell her to make it look like But I don’t even know Stephanie’s last name. And she could be living in a mud hut on some South Pacific island for all I know.

So that would mean paying big bucks for a web developer to do the same from scratch without Stephanie’s creative ability. By the way, I’m partial to the Thesis theme and framework if you haven’t figured that out yet.

So that’s the story about the theme and colors. I think that the next topic that I will tackle in this blogging series is writing style and writer’s block. That seems to be what stops folks in their tracks when blogging so we’ll tackle that subject. Until then………………….

OMG! A Weight Loss Solution that Actually Makes Sense!

Just about every woman I know wants to be thinner. Even women that are thin already want to be thinner. That’s the influence of magazines for women, fashion for women, clothing for women, music for women, and movies with women in them. Thin is in. The pressure to be thin comes from everywhere. It must be hell if you’re a woman who is normal body weight for your bone structure and height. Get thinner anyway. You can always be thinner. Right?

I admit that I’m a health nut. And I’m more interested in women’s health that I am in men’s; probably because a women’s body is far more complex than a man’s. And the more complex the issue, the more that issue peeks my interest. That’s just me.

Alright that’s enough of that. Let’s get to the crux of this post. I stumbled across a weight loss solution  for women that actually makes sense.  No miracle “fat busting” pills or juices, no starvation or rigorous exercise and no voo-woo magic potients. It works permanently so no repeat dieting either. It’s called The Venus Factor because it’s just for women.

The Venus Factor makes sense because it addresses one little known hormone in a woman’s body that sabotages her every effort to maintain or lose weight. Without addressing this hormone, every effort to lose weight by any means will result in failure.

Look at What’s Currently Available to Help Women Lose Weight

Starvation? We already know that doesn’t work. That approach is not only unhealthy, it’s something that a women cannot do on a long-term basis. And as soon as she stops starving herself, the weight comes back. Women want the problem solved once and for all. Short-term solutions are not good enough.

Fad diets? Same problem. They are only effective as long as you are on the diet. Stop the diet and the weight comes right back. And then it’s on to another diet. Just to mention a few of those diets, they are the Atkins diet, the South Beach diet and all of the so-called “celebrity diets”.

The Venus Factor banner woman will belly fatFat-busting pills? Now I’m a believer in Garcinia Cambogia. I saw Dr. Oz’s presentation on fat-busters on TV. The man was excited. He had seen the case studies and the results. Unfortunately there are very few companies who will step up to the plate and offer a Cambogia that meets Dr. Oz’s requirements, which are a minimum of 60% HCA in every capsule of Cambogia. In the rush to make money off of Dr. Oz’s recommendations, there are more sub-standard Cambogia’s on the market than there are effective Cambogia’s that meet or exceed requirements. It’s cheaper for the pill companies to make worthless Cambogia than it is for them to make effective Cambogia.

Many women have purchased sub-standard Cambogia, because it’s less expensive, and they have been disappointed by the results. That disappointment produced doubts about the effectiveness of Cambogia which eventually found it’s way into the news media. There was never anything wrong with Cambogia. The problem was with the manufacturer and their reluctance to make the product effective by bringing the HCA strength up to sixty percent.

But Cambogia has the same problems as the other weight loss solutions. They are temporary. They only keep the fat away as long as you take the pills. Stop taking Cambogia and the weight problem returns. And good Cambogia is expensive. Effective Cambogia can costs as much as $60+/month. That’s right. Sixty dollars plus for a bottle that will last you one month. That’s $720+ per year to keep taking it. Stop taking it and the weight problem returns.

The same applies to other fat-busters like raspberry ketones or Acai berry extract.

Why is The Venus Factor Different?

Let’s get back to an effective solution which only The Venus Factor offers. John Barban, nutritionist and consultant created The Venus Factor by researching human metabolism for two years. Why did he do this? Because he had helped thousands of women lose weight permanently, but the person closest to him, his only sister, was depressed and grossly overweight due to a recent birth and he did not know how to help her out of her depressed and obese state, even though he is heavily credentialed in women’s health. He had to find help for her.

John discovered that one hormone, which exists in both men and women, regulates metabolism and appetite and decides when fat will be stored or burned as energy. It controls the hunger drive by signaling the brain that food is wanted. That hormone is leptin. Woman have twice as much leptin as men. So they are far more capable of losing weight than are men. But the key to losing weight is in controlling  leptin. Because, as you shall see, leptin can be your worst enemy.

The bad news is that women are three times less responsive to leptin than men. Overweight women tend to be leptin resistant. And that is why women struggle with weight more than men. Traditional diet solutions tend to decrease leptin thus making it harder to lose weight. When leptin in the body decreases, metabolism drops which compounds any efforts to lose weight. That’s why traditional diets work for a little while, but once dieting stops, the weight comes right back with a vengeance. After a diet leptin is low, metabolism is low, which is a perfect environment for storing fat.

Low leptin = signals increased hunger, metabolism and energy are low. This is bad.

High leptin = signals decreased hunger, metabolism and energy are high. This is good.

Let’s Take a Look at What Wikipedia Says About Leptin

Leptin is a hormone made by fat cells which regulates total body fat by regulating both the sensation of hunger in the brain and energy expenditure in cells throughout the body. When the total fat stores reach a certain level, leptin is secreted, and circulating leptin triggers receptors in the brain which leads to decreased hunger and thus decreased food-seeking behavior, as well as increased energy expenditure in peripheral cells.”

In other words, when the body detects that fat stores are low, leptin decreases and that signals the brain that food is needed in order to replenish fat stores. Metabolism is also decreased, which aids in fat storage because low metabolism (low energy) burns less fat. When fat stores are high, leptin is high and that signals the brain that more food for fat storage is not necessary. Metbolism is also high because there is plenty of fat to burn for energy. Leptin plays a primaryPhoto of slender womans waist after losing weight role in telling you when to eat and when not to eat.

However, in severly overweight or obese individuals, leptin levels in the blood stream are totally out of whack. This is called leptin resistence. Leptin gets so confused by excessive fat storage that it remains at a low level all the time thus signaling the brain that more food is needed when food is not needed (binge eating). Metabolism stays low so little to no fat is being burned for energy and the individual keeps putting on more weight, which makes the leptin resistance situation worse instead of better. Managing weight becomes a downward spiral.

One reason why women gain the weight back quickly after a diet ends, is because fat stores are low and leptin signals the brain that food is needed. Metabolism is also low, energy is low, so whatever is eaten during this period is stored as fat. The solution is learn how to control leptin to be your friend instead of your worse enemy. Leptin levels can be controlled by adding specific foods to your diet that stimulate leptin production.

Child birth introduces more complicating factors for women. During pregnancy, the female body puts on more weight for two reasons – first to feed and store extra fat for both mother and child, and secondly to cushion or protect the baby with a protecting layers of fat in the belly area .

So how can women make leptin their friend instead of the enemy? This is the substance of John Barban’s research in The Venus Factor. If you can control leptin levels, you can control your need to eat and boost your metabolism or energy at the same time. The Venus Factor focuses on three key areas.

1) Control the effects of leptin signals to the brain by adding certain foods into your diet that stimulate leptin. When leptin is high, your brain is being told that you are not hungry. And your metabolism is also high so you have more energy.

2) Eat what you want to eat. But avoid foods that are “leptin killers”. Certain foods, like those high in salt and granulated sugar, decrease leptin which signals your brain that you are hungry. It’s no secret that food manufacturers put excessive amounts of salt and sugar in the foods that they sell in order to trigger our brains to want more.

3) Leptin also responds to exercise. But not just any exercise. The Venus Factor makes a key distinction between exercise that is appropriate for men, and those exercises that are appropriate for women.  When women are determined to lose weight, they often exercise rigorously like a man. Women should never exercise like a man. Men exercise rigorously for  body-building and cardio using free weights to build muscle quickly.

What is appropriate for women are “soft” exercises primarily for toning muscles. Rigorous exercise lowers leptin which increases the desire to eat. That’s okay for the body-builder who will store that excess food as new muscle tissue. But women do not need lower levels of leptin because additional food intake will be stored as fat, assuming that they are not female body-builders who are trying to build muscle through continuous hard exercise.

Finally, according to The Venus Factor program, women can eat what they want but must avoid foods that lower leptin while adding foods to their diet that increase leptin. By doing this, they will lower the desire to eat when they are not really hungry and they will have more energy due to increased metabolism. Furthermore, light exercise will increase leptin which increases energy. That’s a win-win situation.

Let’s Summarize

So Scott, this sounds like a product promotion. Are you promoting this? You bet I am! Everything I post on this blog is a promotion of something whether it’s promoting social signals on your website in order to boost your traffic OR promoting putting procrastination aside in favor of taking action because the latter will take you where you want to go. I promote outstanding ideas and books. I promote taking your headphones off and spending more time thinking. I promote positive thinking and the Law of Attraction over negative thinking because a positive attitude will turn your life around. I have written posts on all these subjects.

The Venus Factor banner of woman on a beachTake a look once more at the options for losing weight that are available to women. Pills, juices, starvation diets, soup diets, fad diets, plant extracts and fat-busters. They all work for awhile. But what happens when woman stop taking this stuff or are broke from buying it? The weight comes back. Not true with The Venus Factor program.

Here’s a shocker. Sounds like an expensive program, right? I mean two years of planning and research from a degreed nutritionist? Nope. Just $47 for a 12-week program delivered on video and DVD, with support options. No cheap ebooks. I won’t spoil your surprise by telling you about all the free bonuses that come with the program. And there’s a 60-day guarantee. If you don’t like the program or don’t see dramatic results in 60 days, just submit a refund request. Do you know any woman who would not trade the equivalent of a tank of gas in her car for lasting, long-term, natural, weight loss results without having to repeat the process again and again when the weight comes back? That’s my point. There are no other programs like The Venus Factor. It’s a one-of- a- kind.

Now go watch the video. It’s a real eye-opener and well presented. The link below will take you there. Don’t worry. You aren’t committing to anything by watching the video. It’s good information, even for men.
